So I just graduated with a BS in Biochemistry, 3.73 cGPA and 3.55 sGPA. I had a pretty stable trend for my first 3.5 semesters, but during my last semester I had some personal issues and I got a D and a B-, (the D in an independent research study course and the B- in a grad level science course). Before my final semester, I had a 3.83 cGPA and about a 3.7 sGPA. I tried to have my classes retroactively dropped for medical reasons (which I provided documentation for), but the university told me no because I had already graduated and grades are fixed at graduation. They basically told me my reason was legit but they couldn’t do anything for me since I graduated.

I always see questions asking about positive trends, but what about a sharp and late negative trend like mine? I’m afraid this will be a huge red flag when I apply and schools will take it as much worse than a student that had a 3.7 with steady improvement. Am I over thinking this? Or is this a major issue?

Mention this in your application. They’ll ask you at an interview if it’s open file.

No, you had medical reasons. It's not out of the ordinary but you will have to explain the situation. I'm sure the admissions committee will understand that and should not be a factor that may hold you back from getting interviews and/or acceptances.
