hey everyone...

I have a lot of interest in becoming either a Hospitalist or an Intensivist at an academic hospital, but I'm concerned that the combo of malpractice costs and loan debt (private schools drive loans up REAL fast) will be too high to be feasible on an academic salary.

Does anybody know whether or not malpractice is usually covered by the university/institution for Hospitalists at academic hospitals?

What about Intensivists at academic hospitals?

And last but not least... if the university hospital doesn't cover it for the physician, what is the average malpractice cost for (1) a hospitalist, and (2) an Intensivist?

thanks everyone.

if you are employed by an academic institution, malpractice is included as a benefit usually. I would think that the only time you'd have to pay your own malpractice is if you're an independent contractor.
