I posted this in the allopathic section too...but are there any regular admits who went to second look ? i'm a waitlist admit and am trying to figure out housing - dorms vs. off-campus (i'd prefer off campus but am not sure) and how the heck to go about finding roomates/a place off campus.

Any thoughts??

Hey mirla,

I just went through that whole thing.

I chose to go with the dorm the first year, after all. Basically, there are some off-campus housing resources, but, personally I felt it was too much of a risk trying to find a place and/or a roomate without actually being here.
If you, want, however, I can give you a few tips.

The dorms are extremely convenient and A LOT of people live in the dorm their first year. All the second years I talked to told me that being off campus your first year usually affects people's social life to an extent. Plus the year in the dorm gives you time to not only make great friends you will want to room with, but also time to figure out New Haven and find good deals.

Actually, I'm living in a house with a bunch of 2nd years for the summer - they all did just that, and it's great.

Keep in touch.

I probably would have lived in the dorms if I didn't have my husband coming with me. I finally found a place off the Yale housing website, but it was a pain. You really have to be the first one to call and I had to have my parents and his parents co-sign! (We are 25 and 30). We are living on "Science Hill" which I hear is close to the hospital. Good Luck Mirla! Jenn
