For any current students at IUSD, how would you suggest us newcomers search for housing (preferably apartments)? I have tried apartments.com and rent.com but I am unfamiliar with Indy and am trying to find something nice and close to school because it looks like I'll be losing my car my second year. Would the downtown area be the closest? Thanks alot!

i'm a fourth year at IU and i've lived in the same apartment since my first year. it's gardens of canal court and it's located right next to the iupui campus. there are several apartment complexes to choose from that are located just as close though. here are a few others that you may want to check: lockfield gardens, canal square, and canal overlook. you can find there contact info online. hope this helps.

I will be a D1 at IUSD this summer. I am currently looking for one or two female roommates. I have a house located on the west side of Indy near Eagle Creek Park. The subdivision is located at Raceway Rd. and W. 56th Street. It's a straight shot on I-65 S to the dental school downtown-only 20 minutes.

1650 sq. ft.
3 bedrooms
2 full bathrooms
den/office
2 car garage
big yard/club house and swimming pool in subdivision/safe & friendly neighbors

Since i wont have a car either, I have decided i want to live on the west side of the campus to be close to groceries, shopping centers, and restuarants (night life too). I have spent a lot of time looking for decent apts in downtown indy and narrowed my choices down to 2 places:

www.rileytowers.com
they have high rises and very very nice studios and 1-2 bdr. i am currently on the waitlist for one of their studios.

www.vanrooy.com

they have variety of apts. but in downtown area (within walking distance to school), they have Blacherne and Continental (click on downtown or Luxary and then the VERMONT PLACE) which are 1-2 bdr and recently renovated.

both these places are within 30 min walking distance from dental school.

living around the canal might be nice, but its more expensive than these places (larger apts) and while close to the campus, its far from many good resturants and groceries. Look at the websites yourself, these 2 places are very very nice. I really hope to be able to get a place at the Riley towers. i have heard that many other students also live there.

Thanks everybody for all your advice and help! It kind of seems like a dream getting in, but then reality sets in and it's time to scramble for housing, aid, etc. I'll definitely check these out! :)

Hey c/o 2010. If you guys are interested in investing, a classmate and I just bought brand new condos in the south side of Indy on Southport and Emerson. 10 miles north of Greenwood and 11 miles from the D-school. I got a brand new 2 bedroom for $95,000 and my classmate got his for $93,000.

I plan on selling it when I move out of Indy in 4yrs. Better than paying rent. Here's the link for more info: http://hillscommunities.com/pages/c...indiana_02.html

The property is called "Amberley Crossing". Good area: Super Target, Meijers, Home Depot, Pier One, Chase bank, BP gas, carwash place, scrub store, Quiznos, 2 minutes from I-65, etc.

Some popular apt. places downtown and nearby where a lot of dental students live are Gardens of Canal Court, Canal Square, Riley Towers, Lockfield Gardens, Darby Court, Seabring Court, and the campus apartments.
