And why Dentistry and not any other healthcare field. And dont tell me it was your calling if it wasnt  if its independence, financial, etc... let us all know. Anyhow shadow or talk to students or visit classes before deciding to go into dental school or did you guys go in blind?

Both of my parents are dentists- they live the life! Plus they're itching to retire so I have 2 practices to take over if I choose.

I'm giving up a very, very comfortable salary.

My salary is above average. I do not like working for other people and I love teeth. Denistry is a perfect fit for me. Gives me the opprotunity to pursue other things in life as well. I currently work in the logistic sector. My title is currently Southeast regional director. But trust me that title does not mean a thing!!!!

Undergrad School: SUNY-Buffalo 3.0 Biology B.S. General Management - Minor
Graduate School: VCU 3.6 Biology M.S. - Thesis
Age: 26
Current Career: Research Technologist - Roswell Park Cancer Institute Dept. of Medicine.
Why DDS: Research, Satisfying, rewarding, ever-changing and challenging field, flexible schedule for having a family, being able to give my children what they deserve and pay for their college someday... all the things my parents worked hard to do for my brother and I.
Stats: UG GPA: 3.0 Grad GPA: 3.6 DAT 18/18/18
What I don't think I can handle about dentistry: I don't think I could ever turn down someone in a situation where say they don't have any $$ for a root canal and crown, but it is a tooth that is visible when they smile. The dentists I know would mostly say "you don't have enough money, we will just have to pull it." That would break my heart if they were upset over it. I will never be a rich dentist 😛

Undergrad School: Indiana U. Biology B.S.
Age: 38 (in 3 days) - I know, I'm old.
Current Career: Film Production
Why DDS: I left college during my last semester as a senior, because I became interested in filmmaking, and because I was out of sync for applying to med school (what I thought I wanted back then). But I soon became accustomed to the party atmosphere and glam lifestyle that comes with working on high profile shows. So I stayed out of college for ten years before returning to complete my degree. Talk about worrying about taking the DAT! It was 12 years since I had taken some of the prereq classes, not to mention I had no time to study before taking the exam in order to take it in time to be considered for an interview. So I'm happy with my scores, especially now that I'm in! (Louisville class of 2011). I changed from med to dental because I learned more about myself during the time away from school, and know more about what I want for my life, rather than what I thought i wanted.

I don't regret leaving showbiz, although I do miss having people ask me for my autograph!

Research Technologist
Why: I want to work with people. Doing research I am basically isolated all day, infact I used to bar tend just for the social interaction, but 70 hours a week got old. So, now I am just taking some classes to warm-up for D-school in AZ! I also like the creative element that comes with dentistry and the opportunity to work with your hands and be your own boss if desired. Endless opportunity in dentistry for my personality... Good luck everyone!

I chose dentistry because I want to have a career which will can both challenge and satisfy me intelectualy, the aspect that I would be doing a lot of procedures is attatractive cause I like to fix things and after a day of work I want to feel a sense of acomplishment. The idea of working behind a desk and not working with patients on a one on one level is frighting. I also chose dentistry because I have a family already, my father was an OB and I know first hand the stress that practicing medicine can put on a family. Plus no residency/you hit the ground running out of dental school. It also doesn't hurt that my wife's brother and his wife are both dentists and I see how much time they have to spend with their family.. Good Luck people.

Always wanted to become a dentist but enjoyed chemistry too much and now I realized I need to get back with my original plan and go for it. I got into chemistry because I didnt think I would get accepted into D-School with C's in quite a few pre-reqs from a community college. But I got 3 acceptances so far. Temple 2011

I'm most happy working with my hands and people. While painting is emotionally challenging, I needed to be academically challenged as wel. Dentistry fits for me b/c I find it more fulfilling.
