I agree. It's a bit unsettling to know that I may never hear from some of these programs.

This is kind of a delicate situation but if you don't hear from a program AT ALL, there is definitely a chance that a program has lost your application. More than several friends of mine who applied to PM&R contacted programs after not hearing from them only to find out their file was deemed "incomplete" due to missing parts, or just simply lost. (My year, there were ERAS snafoos at a couple places including a top program in philly).
They were given interviews and one of them actually matched at a program she contacted after not hearing from them. So if one of your top choices doesn't contact you AT ALL for a few months ( I would think early december would be reasonable), there's nothing to lose (but maybe your pride) to call the program coordinator and find out if your file has been received and reviewed. It will also show that you are interested. :luck:

I completely agree with axm397. To take it a step further, if you really like the program and get rejected--contact the program. What is the worst that can happen? You already got rejected anyways.

I got two rejections last year, contacted the programs, and got two interviews.

Thanks for the advice! Though, I just called UCI, and I found out I got rejected... wish it were better news. oh well.

If you haven't heard from a program is it better to call or e-mail? Also, should you contact the residency program director or the program coordinator (or both?)?

I say respect the hierarchy and call the program coordinator. If they like you and have the power, you'll get an interview. If they like you and don't have the power, you may get some phone time with the PD or at least their support when they contact the PD on your behalf. If you get rejected, contact the program coordinator to see if there are any available interview slots left - then call the PD. You will most likely need to leave a message and follow-up with an e-mail. I say call because it is much easier to say no to an e-mail.
You do not want to do this unless you are SURE that this program is one of your top choices. Otherwise, you are wasting your time and theirs. However, if mid-november comes and you only have three interviews, make requests (=beg) for any that seem reasonable. It's your future.

:luck:

Thanks for the advice, Kaizen! Got the interview.

I'm so happy for you! Go and ROCK that interview.😎

don't be discouraged guys, hang in there. there were four PM&R residents-to-be in my class at school and we could not make any rhyme or reason to who got offer interviews where. you will find a place! good luck!
