How accurate is this Qbank to Step score chart from 2013?

100% and 100%. I'm kidding, but you shouldn't really focus on what percentage you get right but rather are you learning why the answer was right and why the other answers were wrong.

And your goal should really be, “the best possible % I am capable of getting.”

The chart slightly underestimate your actual score, but it is not a great conversion anyway. Focus on learning each question, and take the real NBME to get a more accurate assessment.

The UWorld % correct overestimated my score for Step 1, but my NBME average was about accurate.

My theory is that it’s because I’m pretty good at doing 40 questions at a time on my couch with coffee in hand and a cat on my lap, and not quite as good at doing 280+ questions in a more stressful situation.

Pretty accurate - I remember progressing from 75% to 85%ish on Uworld step 1, and ~80% uworld step 2. Both steps in 260-270 range. Can't complain although was hoping for 265+ on step 1 and >270 on step 2.

I think it looks accurate enough. Don’t forget that even the usmle themselves quotes an SED of 8 points and two scaled scores must differ by at least 16 points to be considered significantly (p<.05) different from one another. No that’s not a typo. The test was never intended to be a way of comparing applicants and as such is not well designed for this purpose. Of course very few people understand that and we have no other truly objective measure to use so we’re kinda stuck with it.

Given the the underlying error in what is essentially the gold standard, I’d say the chart is spot on.

When did you start Uworld and did you do any other Qbanks before?

Step 1 - I did USMLERx slow over second year, Kaplan in 2.5 weeks, then Uworld over a month ish in dedicated.

Step 2 - just did 1 pass of uworld over 2 months during interviews and other distractions in late november after having applied to residency and not having rotated on IM, Peds, or OB for over a year.

How did you have time to finish Kaplan in 2.5 weeks? Was this during classes or dedicated?

Dedicated.

I went really hard for step 1 and probably peaked like 2 weeks before taking the actual test. We had 2 month dedicated time basically.

I went slow through RX 2nd year and took notes. Maybe 50-100q/week just to see things come up over and over.

Then blasted through Kaplan just to again reinforce the things that come up a lot. 2.5 weeks is reasonable if you do 200q/day *10 days = 2000ish questions.

Then before test did 100-150 uworld q/day and some review of FA and pathoma and microbiology/pharm flash cards. It was a little isolating but not terrible, I went to the gym every day, kept in touch with ppl, and got out a little.
