Hey SDN people this is my first time posting on this website so I want to apologize in advance if I say anything stupid.

I am currently in my 4th semester at a local community college and so far the premedical classes I have completed are :

Gen chem I and II
Gen bio I and II
Organic chem I and II
General physics I
Calculus I
and some other electives like economics, psychology, english, etc.

this semester I am taking calculus II and general physics II so I can get an associate degree to qualify for scholarships at the university.

So far I have a 4.0 GPA both science and non-science.

I have been accepted to a local 4 year university(rutgers new brunswick) for the spring of 2012 in which I will continue to work toward a degree in biological sciences. This university will also accept all of the prerequisites that I took at the CC toward my bachelor's degree. The courses I am required to take that are relevant to the prerequisites are:

Systems Physiology
General Biochemistry
Cell & Molecular biology
Genetics
Microbiology
and some other upper level science classes.

Now If I continue to do well at the 4-year university and NOT experience much of a GPA drop, I should be OK right?
I am kind of scared though because my brother who just transferred from a CC told me that it will be MUCH harder at a 4 year university.

I am gonna try the best I can there.

thank you!

You look fine? 4.0 gpa? Why wouldn't you be fine?

Work hard @ the University, don't party (too much), and git 'er done. Also, prepare and take the MCAT.

Looks good so far. Work on extracurriculars as well..sooner the better on those so you can start to establish good relationships for letters of recommendation down the road (shadowing, research, volunteering for the needy and other fun stuff). Also I would recommend a very light course load the semester you study/ take your MCAT and if you can take it early in the year.

As Willy said, you have a 4.0 GPA. Why would you ask how you're doing so far... 😕

Just make sure your MCAT and ECs are good and you'll do fine. Now go study.

yes it's harder at the university level.

I transferred this semester and im dying...Hoping to get out alive.

It is harder at a 4yr but not unmanageable. I started out just as you did and I also had a 4.0 transferring in. I am graduating with a 3.8 ( I know you can't see me but I am giving my Physics book the bird right now) but just keep good study habits and don't let yourself fall behind as I have found it much harder to catch back up. Also if your 4yr offers a Honors program, I would suggest it as it took care of all my exit requirements as well. best of luck!

Hey thanks a lot for the advice. I am hoping to get around that GPA (3.8) or above as well. What makes it more difficult do you think? I know this depends on the CC as well as the 4 year uni you are transferring to but what does it boil down to? are the materials more difficult or are there a lot more work involved?

My brother keeps telling me that the amount of work at least doubled the ones he had at cc. He is a business major so I don't know what its like.
