I was wondering how UOP ranks its waitlisted? I think they go only by DAT score? it seems nothing else matters to them except for PAT and RC and BIO section... they don't care about GPA, LOR ,SOP or other things
Anybody has any information? I don't think they even read personal essays.... that's kind of sad that a school which emphasize on humanistic approach only cares about numbers on DAT score ...

Hope1313, I'm a little disgusted by your post about UOP Dental. I am a student at UOP and it is honestly the best school for me. I am treated like a doctor (dentist) on the first day of school. It truly has a humanistic approach to education.

I am graduating in a couple months and I would say that in some aspects of your post are correct. They care a lot about DAT scores (especially PAT). The reason they care so much about PAT is that it measures your ability to visually put things together in your head, similar to doing crown preps, root canals, and other dental procedures, which is why the school is regarded as one of the best clinical schools in the county.

Second, GPA unfortunately, does not create an equal playing field like a standardized test, so I would say DAT > GPA. After DAT, then I would say they look at your LOR, Personal Statement, and Resume. The DAT score gets you an interview, but after that ... your LOR, Personal Statment and Resume ... AND especially your interview get you IN.

I am sorry that I don't have info on waitlisting, but I really hope you get in. Good luck with your studies.

I know its the best school. that's why I'm so worried to get off the waiting list but if DAT is the only thing that matters, no effort makes any sense during my interview I got very good feedback from my interviewer but i doubt if that counts as anything. she said that she loved my personal statement but that doesn't make any sense if they just write our name and then try to rank us by PAT or DAT score. That's not how u look at applicants I think we are more than numbers ! I was just wondering if I'm right which in this case means applicants = DAT score now rank them up!!!! easy even a first grader can do that.

I know that you're excited and anxious and frustrated, but bashing the school because you've been waitlisted probably isn't the best way to approach the problem.

Call admissions. Ask them how the waitlist is organized. Ask them where you are on the waitlist and about you chances of getting admitted this year. Ask them what you can do to improve your application for next year if necessary. Show them you are interested in their school, it may help you out. Good luck!

Note that I just talked to the admissions office, and the waitlists are ranked by a number of factors including in no particular order: personal statement, faculty and student evaluations from the interview, GPA, DAT, extracurriculars, etc...

No idea where you got this idea it was ranked solely by DAT?

Really? I thought they just stuck your name on a ping pong ball and pulled out of the machine with a vaccum like everyone else? /*Sarcasm*/

Yah, every school does rate students differently but all of your application stats apply, so do not ignore your extracirriculars, statement, etc... They all factor in.

An example that I am always reminded of is the 5% homework or attendance portion of your grade in a class and you slack for a quarter/semester and think " Pfft, its only 5% " and then when your final grade gets posted as a B+, you think to yourself, "Why didn't I stay on task better to get that extra 1 or 2% I needed." Every little bit counts, so do not doubt yourself, just because you do not get accepted in one place, does not mean you are inferior or anything of that sort. As long as you continue to try and graduate some years down the road with the title of "Dr." in front of your name you can rest assure that you are just as qualified as the guy that got in ahead of you somewhere else.
