How are DAT's scored?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There are 4 sections but one section has three subsection:

1) Survey of Natural science
*Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry
2) PAT
3) Reading Comprehension
4) Math

bio-40questions
gchem-30
ochem-30
pat-100
math-40
reading-45?

no one knows how many you get wrong to score a 20. There are estimates, though.

According to Kaplan, the following is a breakdown of what consititutes a 20 on the DAT, broken down into sections:

Biology - 34/40
Gchem - 26/30
Ochem - 25/30

Total Science - 81-85/100

QR - 30/40
RC - 38/50

PAT - 70-73/100

Like savvy said, I believe these are estimates, but they are pretty close to the real thing. To score 20 is dang good because after you miss 1 question on each section, your score drops from 30 to 26 or 27. So getting a 20 means that you missed very few, obviously.

Although those estimates from Kaplan may be off by 2-3 questions.

I spoke with somebody at the ADA two years ago, and they told me that every exam has some "sample" questions that aren't scored.

They throw them in to see how students do on them, and then use that data to determine if they should be real questions on future exams.

I was told there were 2-3 questions on each section that were samples and NOT graded.

Maybe this policy has changed in the last two years.
