I'm an ORM but I am from a disadvantaged background and have experienced some significant, unique hardships in my life. I have become resilient in college over these hardships, and have become very passionate about helping others like me who also come from disadvantaged background (as seen in my ECs)

My main question is, how do admissions committees factor life experiences and adversity into their admissions decisions?

Resilience and adaptability are core competencies, so is a commitment to service
As long as everything else is in order, this is likely to appeal, perhaps to a screener as well as an interviewer.

All you can do is complete the disadvantaged prompt and secondaries and cross your fingers.

Every school is different, but you can look up AAMC table 1 to see a survey of 130 schools and where low SES and a disadvantaged background fall, in general, between high, medium and low importance.

We love come-from-behind stories and underdogs. It's in our national DNA.
