I'm just finishing up my application and trying to decide how many schools to apply to. Here are my stats.

DAT
AA: 22
PAT:20
Org:23
Chem:23
Bio:20
QR:21
RC:23

GPA: 3.35
Science:3.5

I have done some shadowing, but not a ton. (~30hrs.)
I have done research now for 3 semesters and will be published this fall.
I also have few good letters of rec.

I'm an Indiana resident and thinking really hard about going to IU because it is so much cheaper than out of state or private.

Should i just apply to IU or should apply to others also?

Thanks

apply to at-least 3 or 4 of your top choices. Well done with the DAT. Your options will be open either way if some accept you.

to iudentist04:

Those are very nice stats. I'd go out on a limb and say you are probably a shoo-in for your state's public schools (assuming of course that your interviews go well). Most private institutions will like your stats as well.

Well done!

Excellent stats, iudentist 😀 I'm becoming known around here as the local IU pimp, but I really love the place. I was in a similar situation trying to decide whether IU was my best option or not, and opting for IUSD is turning out, so far, to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's an excellent curriculum, and the people are great.

Out of curiosity, where are you doing your undergrad? I went to Franklin 😀

Thanks for the reply aphistis. I really think IU is where i will end up. I'm doing my undergrad at Indiana Bloomington. A little side note, my uncle followed the exact same path you are. He attended franklin for undergrad and then IUSD. From looking at how he's done, you have a lot to look forward to.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Franklin's a great place, and I feel extremely well-prepared for dental school thanks to my undergraduate education there.

When you apply to IU and get your interview date, you ought to drop me a PM. I'm helping out with admissions interviews, and if I know when you're coming, I might be able to finagle my way into sitting on your interview panel 😉
