So I took the DAT and submitted the application through AADSAS already but I wanted to know people's opinion about my chances of getting in.

My background: BSc. Mechanical Engineering (3.0 GPA) and MSc. Mechanical Engineering (3.5 GPA). Worked in industry as an intern and was involved in research projects.

EDIT: oGPA = 3.0, sGPA = 3.1 , BCP GPA = 3.4 and I applied to 16 schools that are mostly OSS friendly (schools listed on the "What school to apply" thread.

Post-Bacc (~45 credits): took all of the pre-requisite courses + genetics, physiology within 1 year with 3.98 GPA. It was tough year with all the science courses but was well worth it.

DAT Breakdown:
PAT - 23
QR - 21
RC - 19
BIO - 18
GC - 23
OC - 24
TS - 21
AA - 21

As for extracurricular, I have done more than 150 hours of general dentist shadowing + ortho, oral, endo, and perio shadowing (~8 hours each for speciality) during post-bacc period. Also did volunteering in hospital setting during same time as well.

Big question is: What are my chances?

What's your oGPA, sGPA, and how many schools did you apply to?

Just a heads up, a lot of ppl on this site have been getting rather tired of these chance-me threads. You know your stats/soft skills better than anyone. How can we help you without knowing your entire application or even knowing what schools you're applying to?

Thanks for the heads up and sure, it is hard to judge. I just wanted to hear people's opinion from past experience or anything else.

thank you.

Gosh, I hate these kind of useless threads. It's called thread pollution.

In my opinion, you have good chance of getting in. I think you did a good job improving your GPA (especially all the pre-requisites that some people may have hard time with) from previous years. Plus, I am sure your undergrad freshman year was almost 7 years ago (from your background) and you were in different field so I think that is a different situation from other undergrad who went through science major.

Well good luck!!

chances = good. Huge upward trend (easily seen through BCP), good DAT, you'll get interviews for sure. If I was you, I'd add U of Michigan and Detroit mercy. They like to see upward trends from applicants with lower-than-avrg GPAs

why do you say that? Its alot better than the 3.7 / 23AA guy asking for their chances.

The OP has a reason to be concerned, hes worked diligently on his post-bacc and wants to assure himself (aka feel better) that his hard work didn't go down the drain.

Be nice! We are here to help! & quite frankly I like reading these posts, it lets me know what I am up against 😛

Thank you guys for the comment.

dentalworks - I am not sure your background but you were in very similar situation before? Yeap I definitely applied to U of M and UDM 😀

I was trying to be nice! I just wanted to know a bit more information other than the simple "here's my GPA and DAT scores." He obviously meets basic requirements, so now schools have to move on and look at his other skill sets.

+1 what dental works said. you have great great chances especially if your completed applications are sent out soon and wide-swath your schools to apply to. UOP Louisville are especially "apply-early" type schools. If you're WICHE then apply to many WICHE schools, etc. If you didn't already, make sure you apply to temple, and go to every interview you get. You'd be surprised what schools are better than their reputation would make you think.

I feel that your unique background will help to differentiate from other candidates who studied only science.

thank you everyone for your opinion. Is there anyone who is also engineer applying this cycle? or someone who is non-traditional?
