Posted in allopathic & osteopathic because I'm applying to both.

I posted not too long ago about what to do in the last year before I apply, (June 2015) and I was told to keep up my grades, ECs and focus on MCAT (this August). As far as my ECs, can someone give me an opinion on what I have? I don't have any real "shadowing", so I guess I could add that if someone sees it necessary. Also NO research. Thanks!

Lacking research might give you a bit of a hit at top schools, but assuming you're a non-trad you shouldn't have too terrible trouble in getting at least one MD acceptance with a good GPA and MCAT.

I'm not applying to any top tier schools. Thank you for your response.

Are those patient care hours all school related or some volunteer? I'm gonna have around 2000 hours through my school curriculum but my adviser said I needed some non curriculum related experiences. Do you have some experiences working directly with a doctor? If not I would get some shadowing if possible. Everything else looks good!

None of those 4000+ hours are from school. Those are from work. I'm an Emergency Room RN. All of my patient experience are working directly with doctors and patients. I didn't add any hours from nursing school/clinical. Should I? I didn't think that counted.

Also keep in mind for DO it would be highly desirable to shadow one and receive a letter for nearly every DO school.

One of my attending doctors is a DO, in the ER I work at. He is going to write me a LOR.

In your case since you have substantial hours from working I don't think its necessary. Personally I'm gonna use one of my 15 spots and call it "Pharmacy Rotation experiences" and mention all the places I have done rotations, especially since one of my rotations involved working with a physician directly who wrote a letter for me. I also don't have your work experience so your call.

Those are solid ECs. Now get some research exp. 😛

If my mind serves me right, I recall a summer research program that allow nurses to conduct research over 10 weeks.
