Might be a silly question, but I was just curious as to how rankings are determined. If you go to a school that has the honors/high pass distinction, do those marks get assigned an value and then factored into ranking, or is it you actual grade percentage (88%) that is taken into account. This is in reference to preclincal grades.

Who would be the appropriate person to ask? Director of Admissions?
Nope, there should be an academic affairs office or something like that. Admissions doesn't really know the nitty gritty of school, there are other offices for that. Usually, that could be found online, but if you cant then try to go through the contact person for the university and they should direct you.

Do you think it's nit picky asking about the grading? Would it also be reasonable to ask how our ranks are reported in the deans letter?

Nah not nitpicky, just don't be obnoxious about it. It seriously affects people's plans so they are receptive to it mostly, or at least they should be

Agree with the above that it’s not nit picking, but probably not super useful either. If class rank is important to you you’re gonna have to just work your hardest regardless. And if it’s not important, then who cares how it’s calculated?
