How are you guys dealing with the wait for decisions?

I’ve had the privilege of a few interviews, one of which was at my dream school. However, my dream school is a non rolling school and I am literally rethinking my interview and trying to evaluate how I did constantly and becoming more stressed.

I have other interviews that I am focusing on but now I know what other students meant about the wait being so dreadful... should I just try to distract myself a ton?
 
Honestly, I think it's far too early to assume you didn't get in anywhere, especially if you've had "a few interviews" this early. Anticipating the worst is just going to play into your anxiety and turn you into a nervous wreck for the remainder of the cycle. Apart from preparing for interviews, I'd recommend really immersing yourself in a hobby or two, maybe one that you haven't kept up with due to applications. Sure, it might not help you prepare for the next cycle, but it'll make you a more balanced, well-rounded human being, which is also pretty important.
On a personal note: The weekend after I finished turning in all my secondaries, I brought out an old crafting project that I'd been neglecting while applying and worked on it to distract myself from the stress of waiting. I ended up working for about 9 hours straight and finishing it that day. It really did wonders for getting myself grounded again, and I got to feel a sense of accomplishment that wasn't related to my success as a premed.

Cool to hear! And yeah I’m going to just work on hobbies to distract myself
 
Stay busy...learn to cook, get into a workout routine, if you're going to be moving for medical school start sorting through your junk now and paring down. Learn to adult, whatever that means for you. Get your health in order...go get a checkup, a vision exam and a dental cleaning. Have your car in good working order, perform any necessary maintenance. If you're still in school while waiting for decisions, finish strong. If you're in a gap year or working, stash away as much money as you can for your upcoming move, and make plans to have a little fun the summer before school starts. Spend a lot of time with your family and friends now.

Now, all of this advice works on the assumption that you will get in...but if you don't, will you really be any worse off for being in good health, de-cluttered, in shape, wealthier and more mature student this time next year? Also, assuming you do get in, you won't have time for your health to fail, your car to break down, or your finances to implode.

What you should be doing is assuming that you'll be rejected and improving your app, because 60% of all applicants do get any IIs or accepts.
 
Working out, cooking, traveling, hanging with friends, learning Spanish, Netflix, movies, going out.
 
focusing on research, work, eating right, working out (this is still in progress hah), cooking, singing (Newsies, Hamilton, The Beatles...basically anything haah), preparing for my birthday, hanging out with friends and family, obsessively keeping my email and sdn open throughout the day...

For those who want to binge watch shows to distract themselves, try any of the following:

The Expanse (space sci fi based on the "Leviathan Awakes" series of books, 3 seasons' worth on Amazon)

The Boys (dark, twisted take on superheroes, 1 season on Amazon)

Cobra Kai (funny yet poignant sequel to the "Karate Kid" movies on YouTube Premium)

Man in the High Castle (based on the short story by Phillip Dick from decades ago and yet applicable to our current political climate, 3 seasons on Amazon)

YES!! I'm shocked, but Cara Delivigne is actually GOOD! And Orlando Bloom is great. The set production and story are wonderful, too. Definitely check it out.
 
TBH I'm calming myself down this cycle by looking at all of the fun research/industry/public health jobs I can apply for if I don't end up getting an acceptance. I really advise everyone to have a plan B!
 
I'm going to continue the "shows I am currently watching to pass the time between checking emails" topic

  • I second The Expanse and the Man in the High Castle. The Expanse season 4 should be legit and hopefully The Man in the High Castle ends well.
  • Great British Baking Show - easily the best cooking competition show available and they just came out with a new season (if you're into that kind of thing)
  • American Ninja Warrior - my wife and I had never watched before this season, but it is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Mostly because I hardly work out, but I think "oh I could do this!"
I'm in a weird tv pre-season anxiously awaiting some of my regular shows
  • The Flash (and occasionally other arrowverse shows)
  • Marvel's Agents of Shield
  • This is Us
  • Jack Ryan
  • Looking forward to The Mandalorian on Disney+... looks legit, and at $15 million per episode it better be
After compiling this list I realize that I watch too much tv... :whistle:
 
I just finished up season 2 of Mindhunter on Netflix, 10/10 would recommend. I'm also now catching up on the Good Place after I finished the latest season of Brooklyn 99 on Hulu.

Two other shows I like recommending to people on Netflix are BoJack Horseman and Schitt's Creek. Can't wait for new seasons of both of them.

Also, I know it's super hyped, but if you haven't watched Stranger Things, it really is as good as everyone says it is.

Other than good ole tv, I am also distracting myself with work, some remote volunteering, language learning, and crafting. I'm also most likely going to join a local gym now that I finally have some time to work out again.

+1 recommending Bojack Horseman. It’s phenomenal.

I’ve also heard the Ballad of Buster Scruggs is good and I’ll probably get around to watching it in the next week.

Regarding other ways to deal with the wait, I’m switching my gym membership to a climbing gym. I want to obsess over learning a new skill rather than obsessing over my inbox.

Anyone watch East Asian television?

I'm in desperate need of East Asian shows with protagonists that are between the age of 16-26. Can't get older than that because shows with older folk just talk about finances and finances are boring.
 
Started binging Trailer Park Boys. On season 2. Can’t wait for Ozark season 3.

+1 to climbing, can highly recommend. It’s a great thing to obsess over and has really reduced my stress levels. Just be sure to listen to your body and actually stretch- it’s easy to pick up nagging injuries that get worse if you don’t deal with them.
