I was trying to figure out how to use the NBMEs. I know there are other threads out there about which ones to do but I was wondering more of how people are using them. For instance, do you just take one and then see how you did and what areas need improvement? Or do you go over the answers and such like it is a block of UWorld? Thanks in advance for your help as Step 1 is uber-close. 🙂

I'm using them as a learning tool just like UWorld- when I get something wrong or don't understand a question I will go research it. I've heard that questions from the NBMEs tend to repeat on the real deal, so I'm trying to become familiar with all 2138 questions.

After a while you can really start to tell that UWorld used a similar strategy when writing their own questions; quite a few are straight rip offs from the NBMEs.

I haven't bought any yet but do you get a detailed explanation like Uworld or they do just tell you your score/analysis etc.?

No explanation and they don't tell you the correct answers.

also if you don't get the answers then why do people talk in the other threads about how a question was marked incorrect or correct?

Why do people take 5+ of them then? Is there any point to taking more than 2 or 3 of them to see if you're on track score-wise?

I took 7, 12, and 13 online for evaluation purposes. The other 7? Suffice it to say FRAPS is an amazing product. I took all 10 because I felt that it's higher yield than looking at Robbins. It shows me what's been asked in the past and how it has been asked.

If you buy extended feedback on 7,11,12, and 13 you can see which questions you got wrong. They don't tell you what the correct answer was so people end up talking about them online all of the time. As a community we have the correct answers because we remember our old correct answers, but it's not from the NBME.

I was afraid I was gonna have to shell out $500 to take all the tests they have. 😉

Probably a noob question but what is FRAPS? Thanks.

So you can see the question and answer choices that were available with this extended feedback, just not "The answer is A because...." correct?

Yeah - at the end of the exam when you see your grade you are given full access to the questions that you missed with a red X next to your answer choice and no other additional information.

What's FRAPS?
