I just got my application verified, and I had 3 course corrections. They were all of the same type. My credit from IB classes was wierd on my school transcript, so I listed them in first semester like AP course. I guess they were supposed to be "OT". Is this really gonna hurt my app?

no, you got it verified, so you're set. "Bad corrections" are when they reject your application because its too inconsistent and has too many mistakes, then requiring you to redo the whole application procedure over again.

i had every class i've ever taken corrected because i put down a number grade (4.0, 3.7, 3.3) instead of letter grade (A, A-, B+).

lol. some say it won't matter at all. some say it will. oh well, go with the flow.

That's like saying you paid 2 less cents for your tax than you were supposed to. OK, not really. The IRS might want to pay for the envelope with the two extra pennies.

Completely, totally, unequivocally: it's irrelevant.

That's the exact mistake I made!! How long did it take to get your application verified? Mine is still "Ready for Review." I emailed them to explain my mistake just to make sure but haven't gotten any reply. As long as the mistakes are corrected before they are sent out to schools, they should not affect our application, right?

ehh i submitted mine like june 11th and got verified before june 20th i think. right now, it seems people are taking forever and if u call them they'll say 4-6 weeks. i say give it 2 weeks.

and yea, they correct it for u and just put an X next to it. but AMCAS will have no idea what was wrong with it originally =)

The verification seems to be slow for some people, but mine took literally 36hrs. But I am going early decision, so I think I got bumped to the front and I have had my transcript in since May.

Will those X's (in our case, LOTS of them) appear on AMCAS sent to schools? I hope not...

hell yea they will. don't worry dude. seriously. not a big deal.

Each school gets and weighs highly your "AMCAS score." This is:

gpa * 10 + MCAT - ( #AMCAS Xs ).

In other words, someone with a 4.0 with 5Xs is in the same boat (cert pari) as a person with a 3.5 and 0Xs.

Don't dispair with too many Xs: the perfect score (85) can be emulated by having 85 Xs + your_gpa * 10 + MCAT. Some schools will be so excited to see such a high magnitude score that they will ignore the negative sign. This is how John Kerry got in.

lol

I know that Princeton rejects anybody with an AMCAS correction, but I'm not sure about anywhere else.

What about "year in school" corrections? If they decide a class should have been SR instead of JR, does this get a big fat X next to it?

I hear they have one of the lowest admit rates in the nation too...

On the contrary, they have an admit rate of infinity. Gotta love those "Divide by zero" errors. 😀

My AMCAS had so many X's on it a treasure hungry pirate would have gone weak in the knees and I got in just fine.

Everyone has a few corrections made. It would look bad if it involves important things -- like if it appears that you tried to change all your bad grades to A's. Or if you had a ton of things corrected it might look like you are sloppy or lazy. Short of that no one will care.

hmm, my school doesnt give letter grades, just numbers...

although I expect a few essays for writing out the full name of my courses rather than the abbreviations listed on the transcripts.

I had a bunch and got into many schools. Don't worry.
