At my school labs grades are combined with lecture grades so

Biology 1 + Lab: A
General Chemistry 1 + Lab: B+ (Will AMCAS put a B+ as a 3.0 or a 3.3?)
General Physics 1 + Lab: B
Statistics 1: B
An elective about health: A

I have two transfer credits through a program at my Canadian high school (in which, in my senior year I took English classes at a local university), and both those are B+'s, so I have 2 A's, 2 B's, and 3 B+'s

And I know as a Canadian I need to be near perfect so these B's in my prereqs are scary, and honestly I just didn't put in the effort this semester, something I will change, my schedule was rather overwhelming and this was kind of a wakeup call, but it was my fault entirely. My major is biology so I think I'll have chances to bump my BCPM GPA but yeah, just feeling ****ty right now and anything anyone can tell me would be good (especially regarding how AMCAS handles schools that give B+'s).

4.0 from now on. It's the way to save you. Do you have a U.S citizenship/green card?

US schools are much more forgiving of GPA than Ontario ones (a few B's are ok), just ace the MCAT and improve your performance in the future. Some Canadian schools weigh upper years more than first/second, but you'll have to find out for yourself which ones they are because I'm not sure. Anyways, don't give up, and work harder from now on! :luck:

Yes, you should try to get mostly A's from here on out. I disagree that you need straight 4.0 semesters now or you're done. But you need to make sure your GPA increases from this semester and stays consistently high. Admission to US schools for international students is very competitive. Don't worry too much about your first semester, but try to finish out with a 3.8+ to maximize competitiveness for US schools. Also, especially for international applicants, awesome ECs combined with good stats can help out a lot. It sounds as though you recognize the problem you're having, and you need to work on it. I think you took WAY too hard a semester considering it was your first in college. Next semester, you might consider just taking the three lab courses. That's hard enough as it is!

And yes, AMCAS will give you a 3.3 for a B+! 🙂
