I just got waitlisted at NYU. (GPA 3.87 MCAT 39T). Should this be the equivalent of a write-off in my mind, or is there still a real chance I can get in? Feeling kinda dejected....

Most ppl think that there will be alot of waitlist movement for NYU this year, so dont give up hope yet.

I am curious; where else did you apply to/have you been accepted elsewhere?

A waitlist is not always a bad thing, but it depends on a lot of factors.

your GPA and MCATS are soooo high! how did u get waitlisted?

Waitlists at top tier schools tend to be worse because there are very little movement. NYU will probably have at least some movement since some of their top applicants are probably accepted to a bunch of other places as well.

^^^ Agree with this.

Hey,

I would say that yes, it does depend on the school. I got waitlisted from Creighton, but I hear that there is movement since it is rather expensive to go there and most people that do get accepted end up going somewhere else. I would start another thread or even look for other threads that have people waitlisted at the school you wish to attend. In all event, good luck, my fellow waitlisted pal. Just relax and I think that it will end up working for the both of us!!

Well, I already know a handful of people who will be withdrawing from NYU, so don't lose hope if that's the school you have your heart on! I hope you get it!

I interpret the waitlist as a qualified rejection.

I'm on 5 WLs. My advice...RELAX. Just send a follow up LOI telling them how much you're drooling all over yourself to go there and why, i.e. reasons why they are awesome. I know people who have even sent more than one LOI, each on a different reason why they think the school is a good fit for them. Its an annoying process, but it can't hurt and it shows you're still invested in the school.

A waitlist is definitely a good thing, IMO. If you REALLY want to go there, write them a compelling LOI, and you'll be in in no time. If it's your number one choice, write them one every week, just in case=D jk..kinda...

I interpret the waitlist as a qualified rejection.

...or an unqualified acceptance. (ie: lower stats than the average NYU student, but worth considering=P)

Wow, that is really suprising. You have an amazing GPA and MCAT score 😱 Good luck!

37, 3.8 same boat my friend. one acceptance 5 waitlists (NYU included). waitlists are a crapshoot. youll get in off the one you never expect (or not) and the one you think you should come off of never comes (or not) so don't hold your breath. i find assuming the worst to be the best policy. it allows for the occasional pleasnt surprise

Anyone have any additional info on the nature of the NJMS waitlist?

I was expecting a rejection in the mail today. Imagine my surprise when it's a waitlist at NYU... with 3.9 GPA and 31R MCAT...😕Since my expectations were so low, I was excited 👍

My philosophy on wait lists:

Plan for the worst, hope for the best
