Hi everyone!
How bad is taking the MCAT in august 2008 and apply in june 2008? Do you guys think that i will be late in the process because i will not be complete untill end of august? Did anyone receive secondaries without the MCAT scores in (and with what gpa?)

Plenty of people get secondaries without an MCAT score, but you won't get accepted without one, of course. If you're not ready to take the MCAT until August then you will just have to wait because taking it without being prepared would be MUCH worse. Anyway, August isn't late as most interviews won't even start until September at the earliest. Just begin the process in June and hopefully get some secondaries filled out.

It's my understanding that the August MCAT is WAY late these days. Used to be that there were only two dates--April and August--and while August put you late in the process it wasn't a killer. Now that people can take the MCAT nearly every month, I've heard that June or July should be the latest you take it.

Yes, you would likely receive secondaries from all schools that don't prescreen theirs (90% of schools I'd bet), but you wouldn't be complete at those schools until your scores came in which would be September. Completing your applications in September is late--you would be at a significant (though not total) disadvantage doing that.

I would highly recommend taking the test in June or July. If you started now, there's no reason you would be ready in August but not July.

Edit: I just realized I'm on the osteopathic forum. The osteopathic season runs later and tends not to be as brutal when it comes to timing. As far as osteopathic schools are concerned, I think you'll be fine taking the test in August and being complete in September. Allopathic schools, the above stands.

Go for it. It isn't that big of a deal. I took it on August 14 of 2007 and was accepted late December, and I didn't even fill out any applications until after I got my scores. SO, if you get your apps going early in the summer and have your MCAT scores sent to your school picks the day that they come out, you'll be fine, so long as those scores are good😀.

I did the august 2007 mcat and I had no problem with it being too late. I might have had a problem if i was applying to only MD schools, but since DO schools generally have later deadlines it all worked out. I got everything in before the interviews even started (in October).

Yeah, taking the August MCAT will be fine. Remember that you can still fill out the primary application and receive secondaries without having your MCAT, so make sure you do that to maximize your chances. But you won't have any problem taking the test in August, so go out and rock it!!!

I agree. I took the August mcat 2007 and interviewed nov 15 and was accepted a week later. Make sure that you have EVERYTHING filled out and have you LOR's and transcripts sent in June and then you'll just be waiting on secondaries and your mcat. You should be fine, but still, have a quick turn around getting things sent in after receiving them.
Good luck

taking the aug mcat should not be a problem at all. I took it in aug 07, had my primary sent in by end of june, it was complete by end of july, had secondaries sent to me by early august to mid august. I had all my secondaries completed by mid september and I got 3 interview invites by end of october and two acceptances by end of october. (keep in mind, i only applied to osteopathic medical schools) Remember, take the mcat ONLY when you are ready...that's my only advice to you. but make sure you have all other components of your application completed early.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Thank you everyone for your honest replies!!! does anyone know that if DMU, MSU, Midwestern, NYCOM, ATSU, KCOM sends secondaries before MCAT?

NYCOM doesn't start interviewing until November, and doesn't usually send anything until October, so you should be complete by then anyway. Don't know about the other schools. Good luck!

hey, at least you're not like us people who took the paper August MCAT and had to wait 60 days for our scores!!!

I received secondaries from DMU, ATSU, Midwestern and KCOM without my MCAT. MSU put me on hold for a secondary until my scores came in (I took the MCAT in early August).

Good Luck :luck:

I recieved secondaries from every school I applied to except for one sans mcat

Thanks everyone and Good Luck 🙂
