I applied to 16 schools... about half in CA and half throughout the states... I definitely used the shotgun approach. Some bottom tier, mostly middle tier, and maybe 1 or 2 that I have a .01% chance. But overall... is my MCAT laughable? Or should it be okay considering I'm willing to go anywhere in the country? Do i have a chance or should I consider retaking?

There are no MD schools in CA where a 27 MCAT gets you an interview (without some amazing EC's/personal characteristics). Either apply DO this cycle or get 32+ and apply MD next cycle.

For MD schools, unless you're an URM, have a near 4.0, and stellar ECs, you're gonna have a rough time with a 27. Especially in California and any "middle tiers" you're thinking of. You should be fine for DO schools though, so long as you have a decent GPA and some clinical exposure.

It's not laughable, you outscored ~60% premedical students. That is definitely an accomplishment.

Unfortunately, 90% of white MD matriculants outscored you. Look into DO and/or consider a retake.

Lethal for CA schools except Western and TUCOM-CA.
Circling the drain for nearly every other MD school, except the brand new ones (not including Hofstra).
The median score for MD programs nationawide is 33
You're fine for DO programs.

Saying you'll take a 0.01% chance says to me that you're mathematically challenged. It's faster to simply set fire to your money.

It's most certainly not "laughable." I have no knowledge of California schools, but it seems as if they have a high median MCAT. HOWEVER! Remember that is simply at the top of the bell curve. People with lower scores DO get accepted. You just need to have some great extra curriculars, a killer personal statement, and preferably a high GPA. The MCAT is simply a test of how you'll fair the first year in medical school, NOT how great of an overall student you could become.

Keep your head up! If you get interviews, kill them! You most certainly have a chance. All this means is your MCAT will not be the highlight of your application.

Good luck!

Ugh... definitely not what I wanted to hear from people, but certainly what I had kind of already figured as soon as I got my score. I'm just trying to set my expectations accordingly, and I was well aware that California has very high standards for acceptance. That is why I set my expectations that I'd very likely have to leave CA and go to a school elsewhere. I can be honest with myself that on paper I dont look like a very good candidate, but I know my drive, passion, and love is there... so I can only pray I can get an interview to prove myself in person. I do thank everyone for being honest though. We'll see how things go :bang:

Taking everyone's advice... Im going to apply to DO schools as well.

Nope... I am the typical white guy with blue eyes that crew up in a suburban neighborhood in southern California. I mainly applied to the "lower tier" schools because here in CA the standards are very high, as you said.
