I bit off more than I could chew, took the harder math class even though I should have remediated at a lower level. I'm struggling in the class, the professor is not very helpful, and I'm just not grasping the concepts fast enough even though I'm getting outside help. Just thinking about the class makes me miserable and fills me with dread every morning.

I have until 11/29 to withdraw and I'm seriously thinking about it. How bad does this look to adcoms? Especially if I don't have any more Ws other than this one 1st semester freshman year? I'm going to try really really hard to raise my grade and then re-evaluate at the end of the month but I'd be lucky if I could pull a B at this rate.
Drop the class and learn from the experience. You're lucky to have had this recognition of your limitations in a way that will not affect your application cycle at all. This explanation for the W is acceptable, if asked.

If it's one "W" in your first semester of freshman year, than I'm sure it won't be too much to worry about. I think that adcoms understand that some people may have a little trouble adjusting during their first semester, and may be in over their heads. If you believe that you will not do so good, then go for it. In my humble opinion it would be better to have a "W" along with a good explanation, as opposed to possibly failing the class!

Good luck!

I had one W during my junior year in a course related to my major. I still managed to get 8 interviews and none of the interviewers have even brought it up (at least so far). I don't think it has much bearing

Chill.
Nothing to worry about!!!

One W is fine, life happens sometimes. Try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I had 2-3 F's, and 1W. and one semester with a 2.0.

It's ok... lol
