Hello,
I am a sophomore with an overall 3.19 GPA and a 2.87 sGPA. I originally came into college as a physics major. I had to take physics 1&2 classes that were harder than regular physics 1&2 and used multivariable and differential calculus. I got a C and B- respectively in those classes. I have only taken 4 other science classes so far.
Organic Chemistry 1: B
Biology 1: B+
Chemistry: B (taken at another university)
Physics Elective: A (taken at another university)
Is that a really bad GPA? I still have 70 something more credits left to take, most of which are science classes since I am a biochemistry and biophysics major, now. The school I go to is known for being pretty difficult. Am I really that bad off?

It is bad, but if you do well in the rest of your classes you will be fine. Just do well in the rest of your classes. Don't get to the end of your Junior year and have the same GPA.

Assuming a 4.0 for the rest of undergrad, you'll be able to get that to roughly a ~3.65, which is decent GPA for MD, and a competitive GPA for DO. However, a 4.0 is not easy. Assuming a ~3.7 for the next 5 semesters, then you'll be able to get a 3.5. A 3.5 with an upward trend will keep you in the running for MD as long as you're able to do well on your MCAT and have good extracurriculars.

Average GPA for an MD applicant is >3.7. So yes, your GPA as it stands it not competitive.

It is a “really badGPA” and yes you are really that bad off. But things can change. Why are you double majoring? That seems to be not such a great idea since you don’t seem to do great in science classes. Think about why the double major in very intense areas. How are your ECs coming along. I’m not telling you to focus on the ECs because your real focus must be your GPAs but you should be at least thinking of them. What is your plan for the future? You’ll probably need at least one gap year to take advantage of your senior year grades.

Can't sugar coat this, these are lethal GPAs.

Get to your school's learning or education center NOW.

The good news is that if you start aceing things from now on, rising GPA trends are always good.
