Somebody will probably find this funny. But hey, a baby is expensive, and want that student loan debt paid off quicker. The $65/hr PRN pharmacists makes is starting to look pretty sweet. An extra day/week adds another extra 27 grand a year.

Dual title as a PRN pharmacist here? Conflict of interest (our PRN pharmacists won't appreciate it). Other hospitals? My CEO will probably object. Besides, would other places hire the DOP of a competitor? Retail? Personally hate it.

What have y'all see out there?

Start taking paid surveys. My DOP always gets tons of online survey requests in her mailbox (physical mailbox) , and usually they offer compensation for your time, typically to the tune of $20-50-100 per for maybe 20-30 min of your time. I dont know how routinely available these are, but , if you arent taking advantage of them now, you should!

Haven't bothered with those since they don't seem much, but you are right, I can see them add up to something like couple of grand a year. Doubt it will add up to $27K worth though. :)

That does make me think about the new pharmacy school is still looking for lecturers.... pay can be good, but the thought of compromising my values over it is just very unsavory.

A lot of those surveys are a conflict of interest since you have to sell hospital drug purchasing info to complete. only cheesy ass dop do those.

So much pressure....

Don't have to be a DOP man, just can see what they do to make some more money. Like do they do those junk mail surveys, give lectures/earn honorarium or what. :). Got any ideas for this upstart? ;)

What youre talking about is a chump change and basically youre selling your time for money. Unfortunatelu you only have 24 hours per day cap. Your income potential is lkmited by time.

I owned a DME while working as a dop. Residual income. invest in an upstart healthcare software company. Or write a software. Thats what I did. I own a piece of healthcare IT co.....and also working on data mining program. Hope to sell to a bigger co.

Sounds like a high risk high return plan, and I agree investing is the better long term plan. It's just right now I'm a little more financially conservative, with reducing our student loan debt and free up cash flow as the short term objective. Any idea on best approach in the short term? Thanks.

Make your wife get a second job.

Prostitution may be a good short term fix.

I know a PIC of a retail pharmacy who does PRN work for his chain's competitors, but only in stores where he's not likely to be seen by people who know him. It's against the rules, but I don't think rules are really his thing. He also does LTC consulting on the side.

Spoke with my wife who was very supportive (surprise! she doesn't mind more money). :D She's gonna check to see at her place (LTC pharmacy) to if there's any PRN position open. It might get interesting if we end up working together. She also thinks teaching at the mill is a good way to make money and pad CV... yeeeeah, let me sleep on that honey.

Why go laying when you can pimp and make more money??

Bring the hand, wear the bling.

Turning tricks is probably not the safest option. Now, teaching at the "mill" school might be worth it if you can sleep at night :p

Aw, c'mon man, after a girl squeez out a baby, it's her que to kick out to sleep on the sofa, deprive you of sex, and use the baby as an excuse to do whatever the hell she wants. She pimps you out, not the other way around yo!

Nah, it's alright. It's an honor to serve and sacrifice. While you might complain to everyone around you, but you know it deep down in reality it feels good to see your baby crawling around butt naked followed by mommy after his ass.

Teaching at a mill is equivalent to choking yourself to death slowly.

Oh....and the best benefits...

Nicu and peds. No specialist. every one of my staff is competent. except me. why....are you even licensed in Ca?

How big is the nicu and picu?

We do our own nicu tpns....24-7 neonatalogist service.

But i will need a load of help with IT upgrade.

Update:
Got called on a PRN opening at a long term acute care place. Only be needed on weekends, which is great by me. Will know more after the interview.

Day trade ... you can make quick cash... and you don't have to sacrifice weekends. Just reasearch phase 2 and 3 trials....

My manager does surveys too. It sounds like a very good idea. Just do the surveys ...like playing puzzles ....does not hurt, and have some extra cash. Why not?
Also teaching will reinforce your knowledge regardless of how dumb a student is (and they cannot be that dumb, they're pharmacy students afterall)

Because those surveys are done for a marketing purpose and your manager is selling proprietary purchasing information of your facility. That's why it's unethical.

Do you really want to work 6-7 days a week with a new baby in the house, ect? I was working 6 days a week for a long time and it sucked the life right out of me.

What are oxy going for, is it still like $1/mg? That's your cash cow right there

Worked every weekend for 3 years during pharmacy school followed by that workathon called residency. Granted we didn't have a baby then, but neither are we working 12 hour days now. Besides, I am not aiming to work every weekend. Just hate watching money going towards interest and can't deduct a cent of if, can't wait to pay all that student loan off.

A PRN job will also help diversify skills, increase marketability. Also builds network, increase the odds of being able to capitalize on opportunities, while hedge against worst case scenarios at work. Well, it might also save me from doing some of the chores at home. ;)

While the baby is still relatively immobile and have no permenent memory, i think the next 2-3 years might be the time to maximize working hours until he goes to college.

Use 529 plan, you and your spouse can shelter money $24,000/year X just 5 year contribution, compounded for 20 years, assuming 8% return = $500,000+ probably enough for whatever ivy league school your child want to go into... besides it's nice to shelter 28-35% from uncle sam...

Max 401k, and use back door roth $5k/year, save at least 40% of gross income. Stocks going into taxable account and hold bond in 401k to minimize tax-- 70 stocks/30bonds allocation and retire at age 50 :-D is my plan lol

I've been doing that kind of work for over a year now. I work days, too, though. Weekends are on-call only.

If you can remember one thing, be very careful whenever you start vanco, gent, tobra, and amikacin on those patients. I usually round down whenever I dose them.

may be a stupid question: why?
