I’m in a similar position. I applied and was verified in the middle of July. I have 5 of the same schools :UoP, UCLA, western, tufts, and penn. I got an early rejection from UCSF and haven’t heard a peep from literally any other school. I’ve been told no news is good news 6 months post applying, no red flags essentially, but it is only so encouraging. Haha. My stats are a low undergrad 3.1 GPA overall, but a 3.77 masters GPA with a 24 AA, 24 TS, 25 RC to highlight my DAT - no score under 21. 300 hours of shadowing, 2 publications, various research conferences, and extensive employment history in the medical field.

Yeah, no volunteer hours will get you zero interviews.

Thanks for input. I checked and I do have some community service things I did during my masters program that I included- mainly helping at a couple local adult day care centers. I’ll do more community service in the event I need to reapply this June.

What’s considered volunteer hours? I thought shadowing was the same?
Shadowing is literally standing and observing while volunteering can be anything from doling out soup to the homeless to building wells in Nicaragua. You seriously don't have any volunteering? What have you been doing these last five years?

No, I have a good chunk actually. I did a volunteer church mission overseas for 2 years, and I’ve been involved with 3 different community nutrition programs in my area. I just never thought that what was I tell people when they ask for my stats. They are listed under my extra curricular section however. I appreciate the input, so I can make some changes.

Yes. Question: beneficial, harmful, or neither- setting up tours to visit schools and show your face? I have 9 schools with no word from them. I’m trying to figure out how to bolster my chances without upsetting or stepping on toes. I know some schools are ok with it and others you need to let do their thing.
That's awesome. Are you LDS?

I moved these 8 posts from that other thread since it looked like it was getting hijacked 😛 feel free to continue the discussion here, and OP, feel free to change the title of your brand new thread!

From what you say, sounds like your stats are good - perhaps weak rec letters or personal statement?
