All:

My daughter is trying to pursue medical program. She is extremely bright and very talented. We are very positive that she can make it to IVY school or attend a 7-year accelrated program nearby. Nevertheless, we have to think of some backup plans. I am contemplating whether she can attend AIIMS/JIPMER?

She has taken close to 10 AP Classes and she is blessed. Is it possible for her to appear for the JIPMER/AIMMS exam? Do they have any NRI category? I am not really motivated by KMC etc., I would rather let her study in USA for one extra year. It's not worth the effort. I know lot of my friends' children at KMC. Most of them are medicore at the best. I wonder, if any one has the talent to attend or get admission at IVY, why would they trade it for some private medical education in India?

She has worked extremely hard when you comapre her with the rest of the NRI populus or the native populus. Please forgive me if I had offended any one's feelings. My gut feeling tells me that prvate medical school in India is not meant for stellar NRI children. My 2 cents.

I would rather see my daughter attend AIIMS if possible.

first of all... each individual is different so no use comparing ur daughter with others n secondly things change at lot when one moves out of the respective shelter of their parents n goes out... lots of brainies become mediocore students....
... n u r the first person i hav heard abt who keeps AIIMS as a back up plan... its not all that easy u knw... anyways, good luck 2 u...yeah n between IVY n AIIMS, i wud suggest IVY

unless your daughter is indian citizen she can't apply for MBBS in AIIMS or JIPMER.

I read your post and laughed... It is evident that you are a typical indian parent (that isn't necessarily a bad thing) and also that you care about your childs education.... however.. you happened to overlook the fact that all the advice you are going to recieve on this forum may come from those "mediocre" student that happened to come to India to persue their education.

Just to correct you on that misconception, respectfully sir, I was and still am a very driven student and I was accepted to an Ivy league school.

Having said that, I advise you not to keep India as a back up. the truth is that most NRI's no matter how driven end up failing the first time or so as the change in teaching style as well as culture shock and plenty of other things pose too great a challange for the first timer.... this has nothing to do with how well you know the subject. it has everything to do with how well you know the exam process and how well you are percieved by your teachers. like most indian parents you feel that she will save time here. That is most probably not going to be true. the course is 5.5 yrs long. after that you are going to have to study for at least a year for the USMLE's and then you apply to a residency as a International graduate. Do yourself and your daughter a HUGE favor and let her take a while longer in America and finish there. you can read plenty of posts on this forum and plenty of posts by me specifically detailing why. If your daughter truely is gifted as you say, she should stay in America and if she doesn't get into med school she should consider schools in england that cater to american grads that do not get admission into med school. after that she should consider the carribean and after that she should consider India. you can message me personally if you have any further questions.
