FA says true hermaphroditism can be either 46, XX or 47, XXY.

Isn't 46, XX normal?

The genetic sex of a true hermaphrodite maybe 46xx, 46xy, 45x/xy (mosaics). The key thing is that they can exist in mosaic state . Their genetic makeup maybe normal but the ductal sex is often mixed and phenotypically they show ambiguous genitalia.

50% are mosaic 50% are XX. In XX cases normally there is a crossover of the SRY gene onto the X chromosome. Other genes implicated include RSPO1 and DMRT
