So, what's the deal with so many people being waitlisted at Columbia this year (according to predents) than previous cycles?

Anybody care to guess as to why? Any speculations?

Uhh my theory is many students choose other schools over Columbia due to their relatively poor clincals, facilities and high tuition. Thus they have to keep more people on the wait list since many end up attending their state schools instead. I'm not bashing, its just what I've heard from others, even columbia themselves admit that their clinicals suck and more post grad work is needed. You asked for speculations so there it is. Quite frankly, I think the only thing Columbia has going for it is the location and the sign on the front door that says "Columbia."

Actually... the exact opposite is happening this year. Unprecedented numbers of admitted applicants are placing deposits. This year has more applicants than any other year in recent history, according to one of our Ad Comm members. Columbia saw a disproportionately large increase relative to that total increase.

Many more students applying plus a much higher percentage accepting seats = class is filling much, much faster than usual.

You forget the 15 plus people who place omfs every year. And the high ortho as well.

I was asked if I wanted to be put on the waitlist after interview. I said no but on predents I put waitlisted because I kinda was... maybe other people on predents are doing the same?

look up Marquette on predents... I find that waitlist even harder to believe, you need to send a $1000 check to even get on that one...

Well they replaced your spot so that's a +1 on the list when it shouldn't be there. On the other hand...you did get the waitlist position. 😀

HAHAHA~what a joke! kk

lol I knew this would happen. Notice I said it was a complete speculation which I took two seconds to pull out of my @$$. Although I may be completely wrong, I did say it was a theory and it does explain why there is a significant amount of people on the waitlist if there is even a significant amount to begin with.

They only things I consider as worthy at columbia is the location and the name, which are important factors for some, but not me, when choosing a school. Hence the reason I turned down their interview. When have I bashed columbia? Let me clear this up right now. I applied to Columbia because I think it is a great school to attend for the lively location and the prestige of the columbia name. You guys need to be put on ice.

Columbia is a good school overall, but expensive. That's that. 😀

Leave nycz alone. He is allowed to have his own opinion.

Thank you for your understanding

I apologize if I sounded bashing but I can't think of another reason to attend Columbia besides the location and the fact that it has a much greater degree of "prestige" in the public eye. Feel free to disagree.

I agree with you in the sense that Columbia is not for me after interviewing there. But I think in all honesty Columbia has more impressive things than its name and location. The number of people they place in OMFS and Ortho are absolutely amazing out of a class of 75. Equally impressive is their board scores on part 1 and their dual DDS/MBA progam. A Columbia MBA is worth its weight in gold.

Yea I guess thats true, since personal statements, rec letters, ECs and everything else on that appication are all just ways to annoy us.

I think I've been misunderstood, so I'm sorry if I've offended anyone from Columbia. Although its not for me, I still think it is a great school.

actually if he got into Stony I'd put money that he got into Columbia.

I got wait listed at Columbia =/

My first choice...my father wants me to go to Tufts because he went there and his father went there so I guess he wants me to carry on the torch. But I really like Columbia's program.
