Hey everyone,

I'm recently interested in HPSP and have almost no information. I'm wondering how competitive getting a scholarship is going to be?

Can someone please give me a breakdown of the following information in three branches of the military if possible?

How many people apply?
Out of the people that apply, how many people are awarded scholarship?
Does prior military experience increase chances being awarded?
What's the average GPA of those awarded scholarship?
What's the average DAT of those awarded scholarship?
What other factors are considered essential for a good applicant?

If it helps, I'm trying to get into any California Dental School: UCSF, UCLA, Western, UOP, USC, Loma Linda.

Any and all information helps. Thanks!

You'll find this info on some other threads, but here's a summary for the AF
Hey everyone,

I'm recently interested in HPSP and have almost no information. I'm wondering how competitive getting a scholarship is going to be?

Can someone please give me a breakdown of the following information in three branches of the military if possible?

How many people apply? hundreds
Out of the people that apply, how many people are awarded scholarship? 4-5 4-year scholarships and 35-40 3- year scholarships per year
Does prior military experience increase chances being awarded? Not necessarily, but all things being equal it will.
What's the average GPA of those awarded scholarship? 3.5
What's the average DAT of those awarded scholarship?19
What other factors are considered essential for a good applicant? We look at the whole person. You must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and 19, but we also look at your extracruuicular info.

If it helps, I'm trying to get into any California Dental School: UCSF, UCLA, Western, UOP, USC, Loma Linda.

Any and all information helps. Thanks!

In the Army the competativeness and stats change the longer you wait to apply. Initially in January when all the scholarships are available the chance of getting it is good. If you wait until later months to apply - the GPA and DAT required for you to get one of the scholarships will go up. The key is to apply early.

prior military service will be beneficial.

There are approximately 80 4 yr Army scholarships given out each year.
