A student who is in the middle of third year here. Recently got my Step I score back, as well as some other rotation grades back to back. I am still exploring my options for the future specialty, but I am fairly certain that Radiology will be the most competitive specialty that is in my possible choice. For various personal & professional reason, I will be hunting for a program in the East coast. I am just wondering what the stats are like for those program entree. For brief, my stats are:

School: Upper 10-20. The ranking has been fluctuating.

Basic Science: Like hovering around upper quartile or third.

Step I: High 240s.

Rotation: Don't have too much under my belt yet. Honor in Medicine. High Pass in Surgery. Two honors in two surgical subspecialty (short) rotations.

No research experience. Just started contacting few acquantances to get a possible spot for research.

What could I do to secure better chance for East programs for Radiology if that becomes my future preference? I hear things such as cut off for Step I being 260 in some programs. I am sure some exaggeration is in order, but I also don't want to sugarcoat myself with unreasonable expectation. Any insight would be helpful.

You will be fine. There are tons of programs all over the east coast, ranging from incredibly competitive to not-so-competitive. Based on what you wrote, you seem like you will be a pretty competitive applicant.

There is no program in the country with a 260 cut-off.

Just chill and do your best on the 3rd year rotations.
