How competitive are your classmates?

How would you rate your class overall in terms of "competitiveness" and "friendliness"??

Do you feel that your classmates are cutthroat? don't like to share knowledge or skills? Is it a race to get to know profs first and build networks?
Do you feel there is any back-stabbing to try to get ahead?

I've been lucky that in all my educational/professional settings people have been very kind and willing to help each other (with the odd exceptions). Most shared resources. It was most challenging on clinical rotations - especially when you are with a few really loud/talkative students, it is very hard to stand out.

I've heard some horror stories of classes where the majority of people appear nice to everyone on the outside but will do anything to get ahead in terms of the medical/professional aspect, including spreading rumours about classmates or sending annonymous emails to profs to spite someone else.

What's your class like??

The complainers are mostly histrionic with only a few having legitimate gripes.

Its bizarre that people think this is some kind of group effort. We all have access to the same lectures and take the same tests. What you learned or failed to learn is your responsibility. If a prof didn't write you a glowing LOR its because of your relationship with him or her and not because some slutty girl in your class flirts with him in his office every week. Rumors don't mean much either

I've never heard of people writing anon emails to professors bashing other students though.

I've never experienced any of this.

The worst I would say is just people lying or exaggerating the amount of time they *did* or *didn't* study, and also exaggerating their grades/ perceived ease of tests/actual knowledge of a subject.

Medical students at my school are very competitive. Not competitive with each other (I have not seen any sabotaging), but they are very competitive within themselves. Everyone tries very very hard to succeed unlike in undergrad where there are slackers. There are no slackers in med school.

😴 so checked out after a 5 hour anatomy final today. Thank goodness it's over.

Agree with this. Can't wait for 4th year when grades don't matter and people don't try so hard to put up a masochistic front.

not very competitive, but most of them go to offfice ours to rat out some extra points... I usually dont need to.. or see why i received a question wrong from the get go..
