Hey, so I'm going to be a junior this coming year, and I got what I believe to be an IA during the middle of my sophomore year. The IA was for having a fake id in my wallet which I had forgotten at gym, and the id was found when trying to return wallet to me. I had to take a minor class and donate to a women's shelter, but I was told that in a year if I don't get in any more trouble it will be wiped from disciplinary record so graduate schools can't see (not sure how much I believe this). I currently have a 3.8 gpa and what I'd think to be decent resume boosters (2 summers of alzheimers research, 30 hours dr shadowing (currently working on raising), etc). Will this IA ruin chances of med school admission?

Just to clarify no police got involved and I have no criminal record of any kind.

You seem to be very non-chalant about a felony level offense...

If anything is being wiped from your disciplinary record, then you have a disciplinary record. If you have or have had a record, even it is has been wiped clean, you are obligated to report under AMCAS rules.

That said, this is a rather minor offense. Many of us old timers can't relate because the drinking age was 18 when we were in school but we also know that fake IDs are ubiquitous these days and it is not something that should preclude someone from medical school matriculation. Be mindful of your stuff and don't lose your wallet again. 😉

2 things.
1. if you had your real name on it it’s only a misdemeanor
2. If you weren't caught with it in a bar/trying o purchase alcohol/ tobacco (depending on state) you should have and may still be able to get the whole ordeal wiped on the grounds that it is not a fake ID only a novelty gag gift/ prop. Lawyer up and try this route if you are very concerned

Lol good luck with #2

It is important that you report this, but I don't think it is something that will keep you out of medical school. My pre-med friends and I have done similar stupid stuff in undergrad and we all got into solid schools... doctors are people and expected to make mistakes, so ad coms are pretty understanding of stuff like this... just do not do anything excessively stupid from this point forward and you should be okay
