I just finished the hardest semester of my life!! Man it feels really good to be done with organic chemistry. Don't get me wrong, I genuinely enjoyed the class but man was it stressful. If anyone is interested i posted what I took this spring.

So how did you feel finishing ochem?

Ochem II (3)3 hours lecture
Ochem lab (2) 6 hours per week
physics II (3)3 hours lecture
physics lab (2) 6 hours per week
Genetics/Molecular biology + lab ) (5) 6 hours lab per week + 3 hours lecture
Chemistry Computational tools (1) 1 hour lecture
I don't recommend this schedule =/

like getting wasted.... especially after taking o chem 1 and 2 during a summer session. couldnt drink for 2 and a half months

Amazing, so good that me and about seven other people went to the bar across campus to drink after our final. Our final was at 7:30am. I remember hearing people walking outside and screaming in excitement of how they were finished with OCHM after taking the final. It was hell, but there was something about it I found to be enjoyable. In all honesty, it was probably the best class I took in college.

I actually got a little teary-eyed during our last lecture. Ochem was the best.

A little relieved...a little lost. I went from doing hours of work a day to nothing. 😎

I still don't understand why people get so worked up over O-chem.

Felt that way before I took it, felt that way when I was taking it, and felt that way after I was done.

Yeah, OChem wasn't a huge deal... now if you want a huge deal take Physical Chemistry for Chem or ChemE majors. That's a class that was incredible to finish.

I really enjoyed it and kind of wanted to become a chem major afterwards. Def. wish I had more time during the semester to really focus on the class though.

O-Chem was great, but taking physics and 200-300 level bio with it made me eager to finish. xD

I kind of want to try advance O-chem.

I felt awesome, 'cause I took the MCAT the day before my (6 weeks) ochem 2 final...... I was full of happiness.
And then I went to work.

Haven't taken it yet but I will probably feel like its the beginning of the beginning.

+1 Story of my summer 2 years ago. It felt great to get it out of the way, but man...having a 3 hour lecture and 3 hour lab Monday-Thursday then taking an exam (and practical every other week) on Friday was enough to make me go crazy. :beat:

I didn't think the year-long organic chemistry sequence was thoroughly challenging, but I still enjoyed the class. Looking forward to more organic chemistry in the future, though, as I'm taking graduate-level physical organic chemistry next semester and upper-division organic compound synthesis afterward.

That's the last pre-req I need. Would you advise against taking it in the summer? The year long series is 9 weeks long, which means a midterm/final every Friday. I did the same thing with gen chem last year, but that's quite a bit different since they provide many of the formulas to you whereas O chem requires a lot of memorization.

Tbh ochem wasn't that bad.

It was nice to be finished with it though.

Pretty indifferent. Then again, I'm not one for melodrama.

Well I took it in a post-bac, so it was the last undergrad class I'd have to take. So extra happy about that.

Oh great, I'll be doing OChem I with Lab, Physics I with Lab, Analytical Chemistry I with Lab, and A&P I with Lab in the Fall. Glad to know I'm not the only crazy one here.

I loved ochem and was such a dork about it I became an ochem TA. 😎

I was so sad ;(
I never wanted O-ChemII to end. I feel like something from my life is missing now. I have physics to look forward too in a week, session 1 !! But nothing will be the same as Orgo 🙁. I am in depression.

Every reaction was like a movie. I felt like I watched hundreds of movies during Orgo (I actually probably did, freelance ftw <3)

During the last month of OrgoII I felt like a TA- everyone kept calling me, or fb-ing me Orgo questions, or even in person. ROFL they thought I was smart in Orgo, but I was just reading the text book.

I'm going to go with... reservedly happy? It was great that orgo was done (I hated Orgo I and enjoyed Orgo II, probably because I only got the hang of it by the second semester), but I also knew that I wasn't going to do as well as I wanted, so only kind of happy.
Conversely, I just finished pchem (instead of offering gen chem II, my school only offers a "thoroughly" challenging pchem/inorganic chem mixture class that is conceptually much more difficult than orgo, but much more interesting/thought-provoking), and felt like for the first time, I really got chemistry. It was a cool feeling, but let's see how I actually did...

I didn't think ochem was that big of a deal. I didn't get perfect grades, and sure, I worked hard. But I definitely did not see it as this great big bad scary class. No more so than genetics at my college which was notoriously difficult. I actually kinda liked ochem. I mean, I am a huge nerd, so I guess that's not really saying much. But still. Being finished with this course just made me excited for biochem!

felt a great relief, espically when i got mah grade back.

tho now i am a math/eco major, just took calc 4 and it made orgo II look like childs play.

Multivariate Calculus? Yea, it just requires a bit of practice, seems hard at first but you get it soon enough once you start getting used to the 'z'.

I felt like this: :hardy: :soexcited: :highfive: :soexcited: :hardy:

However, it was mostly because it marked the end of a year of ft work and ft prereqs. While I won't lie and say I enjoyed ochem (other than NMRs, I adored them!), I really liked my professor. He was very engaging and really seemed to care about the students. 🙂

Orgo wasn't as bad as everyone said it would be...just follow the electrons. My friends tried following neutrons and they failed...

"Now We Are Free" by Hans Zimmer from the movie Gladiator. As I walked out of my final I listened to it and felt as though I were walking through the fields of Elysium.

calc 4 at mah skool is differential calc, i am not sure if this is wut u meant. yea the massive amounts of symbolism in calc 4 is throwing me off big time.

Touche! I dont even know why they used neutrons in the first place ... better to use protons than neutrons.

Yeah, OChem wasn't a huge deal... now if you want a huge deal take Physical Chemistry for Chem or ChemE majors. That's a class that was incredible to finish.

But in hindsight, was Pchem really that bad?

Yeah...yeah it was.

I thought ochem was easier than physics and calc.. maybe that's why I thought pchem was hard.

Yikes I'm gonna have OCHEM II with Physics II and Genetics in fall.
