I'm in utah right now and chances are i'll be going to case western next year. how did you guys handle moving all your crap to somewhere 25 hours away? i think i'm gonna do a moving company but dont know for sure. also, did you fly out there first to look at housing? how did you know where to live? and how much did the move cost you? any other advice or tips on making a move like this easier would be greatly appreciated. 👍

ps how did you guys handle health insurance during the summer after you graduated?

I've heard of some people using freight companies like overnite, or ABF or roadway. They bring a container by your house, you load it up. Then they come and pick it up and drive it to your destination. The guy I stayed with in Philly moved from Utah, and thats what he did, and said it was cheaper than Uhaul.

I plan on selling all of my old, cheap, crap furniture here and buying new, cheap, crap furniture when I get there

I have to agree with armor (well said by the way). After pricing moving expenses it just doesn't seem to be worth it. But, I am also moving back to my home state, about 15 miles from where all my family is, and they have saved some old furniture that I will inherit. This makes it a little easire for me🙂

Go to the moving companies website and get a quote from them to ship it to the area around your school. If your stuff is worth a lot more than the move itself, it might be a nice idea to ship your stuff there so you have more comfortable things from home. But if your stuff is cheap, then save yourself the hassle and just come here and buy it.

Also, for items that can be shipped by a shipping company, Fedex is probably the cheapest. Go to fedex's website and make an account with them (which is free). That will give you a discount when you bring your stuff to their shipping center to mail off.

I used ABF. My wife called and told them she had a cheaper quote from Budget and they figured in gas and gave us a comparable quote. It was well worth it. We saw a ton of sight around the country on the way out spent a few days in Nauvoo on our way out, and had alot of fun.

I'm going to rent a U-Haul. My move will only be a little under 200 miles.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I want to buy a house/condo before moving there or if I want to start out in apartments and then move to a house/condo.
