This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
its pretty much the same for all schools.

8 credits Gen Chem
8 credits Organic Chem
8 credits Biology
8 credits Physics
6 credits English

some schools have requirements about math courses (calc, etc.)
some schools require biochem
some schools recommend microbiology, anatomy, other upper level sciences, and humanities courses

check out school websites for the exact requirements.

every school has the general requirements:
2 semesters of english
2 of gen chem
2 or ochem
2 of physics
2 of bio or zoology

depending on your undergrad (classes offered, quarter/semester this will vary)

Then there are recommended courses:
biochem
anatomy
physiology
histology
psychology
etc.

isit each schools websie and find out what exactly you should take and plan around that. It is also better to apply already haven taken these classes so they can figure out that you can handle the course work. It isn't necesary...BUT IT HELPS!

Great minds think alike!

I bought the ADEA book and looked where Utah kids were getting in, I also looked at the past stats sheets from my schools records to see who got in where with what.

well, i mean like. how did you know what school you wanted to apply to? is it the norm to go to the school that's in your state? what were your preference as to what school to apply to? cuz i seriously don't know what schools to aim for.

Apply to all the schools that have a football or basketball team in the top 25.

🙂

I through a dart at a US map, hahaha

if i were to do it all over again....

I'd rank the schools from cheapest to most expensive.

Start with the cheapest and pick the 6 cheapest schools that you have a good chance of getting an interview.

I regret my choices of application now....I have been accepted to a VERY expensive school and then a moderate school.

Just my thoughts.

i just decided schools that were close and didnt do much research on any of them which was a big mistake i would really look at every school and find the ones that would fit you the best

does it really make a difference, i mean, we're all going to loan the money and i guess in the long run, it won't make much difference right? or if we go to a more expensive schoool, is it drastically more to pay per month when payin the loan compared to a cheap school?

TONI, can't you get a little more pumped up? CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL

whoa, IDH's kitty has gone satanic

I categorized schools by cost, found out who gives preference to Hawaii applicants, checked them out in the ADEA handbook, and spoke to as many dentists and dental students as possible to find out what each school was about, which ones have a good reputation, and who liked their school.

And then I pulled out the dartboard

I called up OHSU admissions way back in my newbie days. I talked to a pretty cool guy, and told him that it was really hard to get a picture of what made schools different just by the info on the web. His reply was, "We are pretty much all the same. Everywhere turns out great dentists. Go where you would want to live, and where the students are happy."

Interesting answer

I would also wait until you get your DAT scores because that can change where you do and don't stand a chance. I ended up crossing off some of the back ups that I didn't actually care about to save money on applications. And yeah... I second considering cost and places that are close to where you may potentially want to practice because there is a certain amount of networking that goes on (at least for state schools) and a certain benefit to getting "in" with other dentists that are and will be in the area. When I got my acceptances back, with two schools on par with eachother, the first to go was the significantly more expensive one.
