How did you study for org chem?

Kaplan big blue book + OAT destroyer

Going over past organic notes you have (assuming you do) is helpful.Organic is one of those things you learn as you do questions though. So don't just stare at notes all day long. Go find some questions and learn as you make mistakes.

I was told from a Dean of a well known school that they could care less about your Orgo score since you'll never really use it. But I would still try to get at least a 300 on it. Use Chad's Videos!!!

For me the way I learned OChem most efficiently was through practice questions. I could read all day but until I actually had to use the material I just didn't get it or remember it. The key is having questions with detailed explanations.

How did you do in organic when you took it?

If you did good you should have no problem jumping in and doing a bunch of practice questions b/c that is the only real way you will get better.

But if you did bad, then you may want to invest more time learning. I needed more help on chiral and achiral and I found this http://www.youtube.com/user/CrackOChem. He pretty much covers every subject and in extreme detail with models. There is only so many on youtube and you have to purchase more of his videos but they are pretty inexpensive.

I haven't taken organic in about 3 years and I got a really high score on this section.

I would recommend chad's videos. That is basically all I used for organic chemistry. After that, I would do some practice problems in Kaplan. At times when I got a problem wrong I thought, "hey, Chad didn't teach me this!" I would then refer to my organic chem notes from Chad's videos and find the reaction there. It was like they magically appeared! haha...I would say that as long as you memorize all the reactions from Chad's video notes, you should be fine. Of course, the OAT does spring some surprising questions on you sometimes. For example, they might talk about specific tests that make things change certain colors. But there aren't many of those problems, so I wouldn't worry about those. Good luck!
