Some of the reasons why people are so miserable in undergrad school is because of the lack of group they fit into. For me that's the case. I'm a Mexican-American going to a mainly, 85-90%, white school. While I have friends none of them are true true friends, friends I'd do anything for, you know? Do you guys like the diversity within your school.

For this reason I'm considering transferring because of the lack of new people. I guess it's just the way I brought up. I went to a city school all my life, LOTS of diversity, but for my senior year and this year I've been going to suburban schools. WHICH SUCK! 🙁

Edit: I didn't make "Horrible! Why did I come here!" into a question. Woops.

Can you only be "true true friends" with other mexican americans?

No, but most of the people in my school think I have a disease or something. I talk to them but don't get answer/response. You know? I'm the kind of person that submits myself into a pool of different people, geeks, arts-y, hot girls, etc.

Would it have made a difference in your response if I did not mention my ethnicity?

Much easier for some people to form strong bonds with people you share a common culture, background with IMO. I believe that's what he was going for.

Probably. The only reason I said that is because you made a thread about diversity, how your school lacks it, how you have no real friends there. The way you phrased it made me infer that it was because of the lack of diversity.

If you made 2 posts. 1 about diversity and another about how you can't find a true true friend then I wouldn't have confused the two.

Oh, okay I get you. Sorry bout that. But yeah. I like having friends who I share a background culture with, but also people I don't because it gets boring being with people just like you.

In the city schools I went to, I had friends of every color. White, black, brown, yellow, pink. LOL While the school separated themselves I tried having as many friends from as many cultures as possible. I think by doing this it made me a less-judgemental person. You know? I say this because people from my school, most of them, just talk to me about grades, school. Never entending a conversation. They seems to stick with just friends they already know, which in suburban schools is whites with whites, blacks with blacks, etc. I don't like that.

my undergrad (wayne state) is extremely diverse. its got a huge international student base.. there are people from at least 100 different countries here. i've made a lot of friends who are immigrants here, from albania, germany, poland, mauritania, nigeria, jordan etc etc etc. the school appears to be mostly black, indian, and chinese.

i feel like most of the people i interact with are pretty cool. but there's also a lot of people that just stick with their own race/background, with whom i don't interact too much. i like to branch out 🙂

The diversity at my school is amazing.

I think my school is pretty diverse. It's a state school, so most are from one state, but there's a good mix of people.

i grew up in a very diverse community and went to a very diverse college. by then i was so used to it that i barely noticed, which i loved. i just liked that there were tons of different people and they (mostly) interacted together without any awkwardness or prejudice.

i'm white, so i never thought i'd care if i moved to a less diverse area (plenty of white people everywhere, lol), but after school i moved and i really miss the diversity. i can totally understand wanting to get out of a less diverse school. best of luck finding somewhere that suits you 🙂

Hey thanks! 👍

race is a very limited view of diversity

To some extent yes, but it's a great measure. But what I meant by "diversity" is cultures. Submerging myself into a more culture rich school is going to provide a larger variety of students which different views. Going to a suburban school where most students are white is somewhat dull. 👎
