I'm trying to get my pre-requisites out of the way in time to apply next fall (entering fall 2010). Specifically, I need one more chemistry and two organic chemistrys. I was hoping to get them done during summer sessions at a local university, but I was offered a job down at the beach that I can't turn down. The problem is, there's no University down there, just a community college.

Will taking these classes at a community college hurt my chances with Admissions departments, even if I explain the situation to them?

I remember a representative from NECO saying that they prefer that you take the classes at a university, but they wont mind if you just need to take two or three prereqs at a community college.

And i think this goes for most optometry schools. So my answer is no, it wont hurt your chances.

I have a very similar question to this topic (that might help OP also).

What if due to ones major and scheduled courses, and the time of when a pre-req such as Bio and Orgo (hypothetical examples) is offered, you simply cannot take it at YOUR 4 year school?

Is it then justifiable to take Bio or Orgo at a community college? where the times are more flexible, and the cost is relatively cheaper?

Actually, I think some schools are stricter than others regarding community colleges. Call the schools directly and ask what their policy is.
