Is that something medical schools take into account? Let's say you got sued for nonpayment of rent, you owe the landlord several thousand, it went to court and you defaulted..Let's say you got sued for 50k because of a business transaction, lost, and defaulted...

Do the background checks include these civil judgement credit checks?

You should pay your rent

To be fair, it could be that OP's housemates didn't pay rent. Some, if not all, leases allow the landlord to sue you for a housemate's non-payment.

Not sure if this is about something that has already happened or just a concern that may or may not take place in the future.

To my knowledge, basic criminal background checks only cover arrests & charges brought against you by the DA of your state. Higher-level federal background checks cover the entire US (all states).

I believe medical schools participate in the latter. However, they only care about successful charges (cases where you were convicted or plead no contest). As long as it was a civil suit, and not a criminal suit, I do not think the schools will care or even notice. However, it will be a problem for you if you attempt to get a loan for medical school, as your credit score probably sucks.

Hope that helped
