From what I have gathered in the predental section, you can get scholarships based on semester grades and when you are admitted. Can anyone shed more light on this or speak about this in more detail from personal experience?

As an aside, how realistic are the living costs that are posted? Can getting a roommate and avoiding eating at restaurants reduce this cost drastically? And for books and equipment, can you buy these used?

I'm a Texas resident considering applying to the three DS here, if it's relevant.

Bump. I'd be interested in learning more about this too

Dental school scholarships are few and far between. Don't expect anything. If you do get a scholarship, then awesome. Cost of living can be as high or low as you make it.

You've probably already sent in your app, but I only applied to the three Texas ones and it was a great decision for me.

Also you get scholarship at the time of acceptance for some schools and later for others. I got one from the school I'm going to for 8k, I didn't get any from the other schools but I know people did a little later.

I also know that there are a few scholarships available after d1 as well and you can get those based on performance and extra curriculars.

It is good to ask for scholarships when you are accepted, before the deposit deadlines are out. Especially if you were accepted on December first. The December first acceptances are the ones they will be very willing to deal with. I wish I had known that going in.

You may think you're out of line asking, but they want you just as bad as you want them.

Imagine having the best of the best applicants from those accepted to dental school vying and applying for the same scholarships, at least the ones that are worth mentioning.

Yeah, it's good that you're asking this question but don't expect anything. A 4.0 GPA/21+ isn't gonna raise eyebrows anymore. Want to know what is more impressive than a 4.0 these days? The know-how to apply early. And that is not far from an exaggeration.
