How do externships work?

So I know the general process with the app and stuff, but once you're accepted do you have to go thru all the trouble of finding housing/ renting a car/ etc? Or do some places offer week long housing for externship participants?

It depends on the program, some may provide assistance when it comes to housing but for the most part you are on your own. Check the individual program page for details.
