I am applying to medical school with a low but above minimum GPA and regular MCAT. Still I have the requisites to be invited for an interview, so what should I keep in mind when I am at the interview to give me greater chances to be admitted.

PS: My GPA was very weak at first 2 years since I was unmotivated and lazy, but last two semesters have been near perfect, so it is not that I am stupid because when I am motivated I can get 4.0 as I did last semester. How do I show them that I deserve to get in even though I had a low GPA during my first two years. Any tips?

Do not use words like "dominate" and "deserve". If you do not change your tone, a higher GPA will not even get you into medical school.

I know that I can't use those words in the interview. Just asking for any tips to make a strong interview and leave an excellent impression so that they strongly consider me.

he was just using it in a post title...lol. I'm sure he wont say that in his interview relax. Just be confident OP, go in knowing you have more then what it takes and don't question yourself

That tone is more of a habit, and will pop out unexpectedly and subconsciously... just beware. Otherwise, be confident, articulate, know your own activities, why you did them, what you've learned, skills you gained, be ready to give examples demonstrating compassionate, collaborative, and professional behavior, and if they present you with a tough ethics scenario, consider the benefits and downsides of both arguments and do not express extremist opinions.

Good luck.

lol Im a shy person. I would never use those words in an interview. I just used them in the post to exaggerate...anyway thanks for the tips 🙂

As for the ethics I taking a medical ethics class that I consider very useful for the interview. Im just worried that I would not stand out from the others, given that I am a little shy and not too outspoken when I should be.

thanks! I really hope that I can make a positive impression so that they remember me 🙂

I agree the rest of the posters. Domination is a hit or miss. It all depends on your interviewer, the time, the weather, and yourself. There are a lot of factors that go into determining if you had a good interview.

As said earlier, preparation is the key to victory. Prepare as much as you can and be confident. You need to believe that you can run over this interview like a freight train. You can do it and good luck!

Also remember to smile and be friendly. Introduce yourself to your fellow interviewees. They might just be your future fellow students and colleagues. Being fairly outgoing and taking initiative will definitely help you stick out and have the faculty/students remember you, even outside of the one-on-one interview.

Even if you get a sour interviewer, smile till your cheeks hurt and be gracious. Don't let any curveballs shake you up. You'd be surprised at how many stories there are of people thinking their interviews went horrible, but they ended up getting a glowing recommendation by their interviewer.

I will do my best to always be smiling.

By not using words like "Dominate" "Unmotivated" "Lazy"...oh, and not making excuses. Have you actually received an interview invite or are you just hypothetically asking?

The best interviewees tend to...

1) Have something worthwhile to talk about.
2) Be confident, but not cocky.
3) Feel comfortable in their own skin.
4) Professional and courteous.

I think #1 and #4 are mandatory to be a good interviewer. #2 and #3 are good bonuses.

Here's a tip: don't always be smiling.

That would be pretty creepy.

What if he interviews on the day of Halloween? He'd be properly dressed in a suit and tie, plus I've heard of guys wearing make-up.

You've heard of guys wearing make-up. Please share.

My brother used concealer on his acne when he went interviewing. Does that count?

According to online news articles, in present day Korea, "most" females have done plastic surgery and "a large portion" of guys wear daily make-up, sometimes taking up more than an hour of their time each morning. I have seen the latter in a few Korean international students at my college as well. I wouldn't be surprised if at least one European male wore light make-up, since they care about their hair and clothes so much anyways.

Just reporting the news.

Medical School Interview: Secrets and a System For Success

I'm a pre-dent, but this book helped me tremendously.

Meet with any faculty that does pre-professional health interview practice at your school. But yes to what mimelim said.

Just know what's on your app and be able to say in 90 seconds or less what you experienced and why it is relevant medically.

Try to keep it conversational in your interview as much as you can (obviously you aren't asking the questions).

Have a general knowledge of the questions the school asks. You can find these under the interview feedback on this site. Try to write down little points to answers or points you would like to accentuate in any answers. Read about current medical events and know some aspects good and bad of the new health care bill.

Do all this in a conversational tone that doesn't sound rehearsed and you should do great.
