How do I get involve in Research?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Get a job as a research tech, or get in touch with active researchers and volunteer (and cross your fingers).

Pro tip: it is hard to volunteer your way out of the blue and into a lab, but Ecology researchers are always looking for free people willing to go and count stuff in the great outdoors.

It's not getting into research that's hard. It's getting to play a meanngful role in research that's difficult. Usually volunteers don't have a much better job than washing dishes and ordering supplies. The goal is to show experience in using the scientific method, generally through a publication. Few volunteers have the opportunity to get published with their lab.

Your best chance is to find a job as a research assistant or something of the sort. With this economy, good luck. You probably have a chance if you introduce yourself to researchers, explain your experience and goals, and hope for the best.
