Hello all, here's my situation. I'm currently 27, and will be graduating from chiropractic college in Dec. As an undergrad my dedication to academics was sporadic, resulting in too many "W's" and a lackluster GPA around 3.2-3.3. I entered chiropractic college and performed better (3.6 GPA), however I have mixed feelings on the education. Strong basic sciences, weak clinical sciences at my college (I did not attend a "subluxation-based" school). I've strengthen my clinical resume through hospital and pain management preceptorships outside of the college's clinic. My plan is to take the MCAT in Jan and again in April if needed.
Will my basic science chiro grades be looked at when calculating my GPA?
Will my DC degree be a benefit or a hindurance applying to med school?
Any advice on improving my stats? or should I concentrate on maximizing my MCAT performance at this point?
My interest is in a PM&R residency, would this be attainable if I had to resort to the Caribbean Med Colleges?
I fully understand my options will be limited, I'm looking for ways to expand them as much as possible.
Thank you for any advice....

Your chiropractic grades will not be averaged in with your undergrad gpa, so it won't increase that. Schools will look at it, but you'll still be stuck with a lower than average gpa. As for the chiropractic experience, I really don't know how schools will feel about it. I have heard of a few former chiropractors in osteopathic school, so that's something you should definitely look into. As for PM&R, it used to be considered an easy match, but I think it's gaining in popularity. It's still not super competitive, though, so it seems it would be obtainable from the Caribbean. It's definitely obtainable from osteopathic schools, so I would seriously think about osteopathic schools over the Caribbean if you can't get into a US allopathic school.
