How do I.../ Mercer/Pcat Thread

Hi, every1! This is my 1st thread on here, but I had a question. I am beginning my pre-pharmacy this fall and I really have my eyes & heart set on Mercer....but my problem is, they suggest for you to apply early right? The Admission process begins in June and your supposed to apply 1 year before your possible entry date. So that would mean I would have to Apply in June of 2010, and have taken my PCAT by then....But, the closest date for that is January 2010, and by then, I will not have even finished my 2nd semester of pre-reqs....And I do not think I will be ready to take the pcat, and I don't want to waste money and take it THAT prematurely because I already know that my score will not be good with only 1 semester of pre-reqs down. Does Mercer do this to encourage its students to have atleast 3 yrs of pre-reqs or what? I am open to suggestions, or different ways to go about this, as Mercer is my very 1st choice. Please tell me how you guys did it & for those of you who were accepted can you please include ur stats? Thank you. Everyone have a wonderful day. _PharmCutie_😍

I don't know anything about Mercer. But I'm going to assume that they require a good PCAT score. With that said...

If it's a priority for you to apply in June of 2010, I would suggest that you make the most of this summer and try to take both BIO1 and CHEM1. The game plan would be that you take BIO2 and CHEM2 in Fall 09, so that you can take ORGO1 and Anatomy in Spring 10. These are the courses you need before the PCAT. You will have to take the June PCAT and apply to Mercer whenever your scores are available. Then take Physics, Orgo2, and other advanced bio courses in the next year while you interview with schools. Also, you should be on your Butt-Kissing-Perfect-A-Student mode when you take BIO1/CHEM1/BIO2/CHEM2 because the professors for these courses are your best potentials for early LoRs. Summer professors are the easiest to get to know!

If you can't manage this schedule, then just take one summer course, and take all your requirements on a regular schedule, but you should study on your own for what is covered on the PCAT. Try Kaplan if you don't want to teach yourself anatomy/orgo.

And I know you love Mercer, but I would encourage you to apply to as many schools as you can afford. Mercer is just the means to the end.

Good luck! :luck:

Everybody is different. For me, I took the PCAT before most of my pre-reqs and I scored the highest percentile out of 3 attempts. My next 2 attempts were either during or after my pre-reqs and I scored lower. Just something to keep in mind. Your pre-reqs may not necessarily help you with the PCAT. Good luck!
