What are the current issues going on in physical therapy I should research ?

What other questions should I be prepared to answer besides the basic "why PT?" "why this school?" "tell me about yourself?" questions.

I would just familiarize yourself with Direct Access and Vision 20/20, however these issues never came up in the interviews I had. I got a lot of ethical questions in my interviews, for instance would I report a friend who went to office hours and found test answers and tried to give them to me. I also got questions about how I would handle different situations, like getting yelled at for doing something wrong when I was working with a patient during a clinical rotation, or how I would handle a patient who wasn't doing things i told them to do at home. I definitely got asked the personal questions in every interview, and even though "Why do you want to be a PT" is such a standard easy question, make sure you have a good answer that stands out because your interviewers don't want to hear the same thing over and over, use personal experiences! And besides all of that I was asked about favorite/least favorite experiences during observation/tech hours and what I've learned from those experiences. Hope this helps! Good luck to you =)

Whatever you do, when they ask you why you want to be a PT, don't tell them it's because you like or want to help people. Go into retail if you want to help people. Tell them you want to think and apply scientific knowledge that you've learned. Tell them you want to be rewarded for your knowledge.

Basic things

1.) Professional appearance - Suit for men, equivalent for women - basically don't look trashy or like you are going to the club. Brush your teeth, check your nose for dirt. I'm being very serious this, remember, first impressions are everything.
2.) Shake everyone's hand in the room - if multiple people are being interviewed, shake their hands also
3.) Be familiar and have an opinion on physical therapy: current issues
4.) Know basic questions such as Why PT? Why not another profession?
5.) Why this school? - Know something about the program you are joining, not just because it was the only one that would give you an interview. Throw in something about the faculty
6.) Tell me something about yourself. Really think about this one. Some people can't or don't like to describe themselves and freeze up when asked this question.
7.) When you are done - shake every interviewer's hand and say thank you.

Pre-interview - while in waiting area - chat with those in the waiting room, don't be obnoxious, loud or rude. You never know who will see you or hear what you are doing.
Never be rude to the Physical therapy's department secretary or assistant.
