I'm excited about getting interviews but have no idea what to do to prepare! I can't even answer the inevitable "Why do you want to go into Anesthesia?" Aargh..

Is there any resource I should study or memorize? Do I need to be up to date on current research or stuff like that? Thanks a lot!

Oh, and how are prelim interviews like? What questions will they ask you?

I'd start preparing by finding your answer to this question, if not for the interviewer then at least for yourself.

That aside, what I am doing, as a bare minimum, is returning to the program website and finding why I applied there in the first place - location, strong ICU, trauma center, integrated prelim year, i.e. what makes that program different from others, or what made it attractive to me. For some of them, location is the primary reason, and I'm comfortable with that.

Also, go over your CV and have some good answers/anecdotes pertaining to any jobs you had, a hiatus in your academic career, previous graduate degrees. Review any research you published, or thesis you authored, and at least know the basics. It looks good if you have six publications, but not so good if you can't remember the major conclusions you reported.

Finally, as has been said previously, remember that you are also interviewing the school and deciding if they are a good match for you. They have to show you something you want, and the onus is not entirely on you during this process.

*snicker* i said "onus"
