First let me start in high school i was never at the top of the class and my gpa was not impressive at all. My first semester of college was a washout as i failed almost every single class. I'm in my summer semester of my first year trying to recover. I had a 0.00 my first semester(passed english but it was no credit), second semester I had bumped it up to a 3.13(cumulative 2.09 as 5 credits were not made up yet. I'm currently in my summer semester which would be my third taking calculus one and retaking chemistry(failed the lab portion but had a B in the class) which should raise my cumulative and start throwing out some more advanced classes. Do i still have a chance at getting into a pharm program?
But now onto the real question, how do i show i can be a competitive student with a flaky educational past? I'm trying to take the hardest classes I can and get the highest possible grades i can in the easy ones. will a cumulative GPA of a 3+ be enough despite everything? I'm sorry if this looks like a jumbled mess but feel free to ask me any questions you would like and offer any advice you can. As i mentioned i am looking to study pharmacology, yet would absolutely love to try to bust enough ass to get into pre-med. Working in a trauma center is my goal but i love studying about the effects of drugs in the human body.

Thats what i did in the spring after seeing my transcript! 🙂 I'm getting ready to study calc before bed to make sure i understand all the material before class on Tuesday. Do schools have mercy on students who screw up first semester?

Mercy? not so much more like understanding. Just get it up to the low 3s preferably middle and rock that PCAT or GRE or MCAT. But Med school is UBER competitive so get that 4.0.

Schools look at overall GPA's but also at trends in your academic career. So to answer your question, usually, yes. A lot of students screw up when they transition to being in college with all the extra freedom vs all the extra responsibility. I made a 2.2 my first semester in college but brought it up to a cumulative 3.56 by the time I graduated and was accepted.

I know what you mean, poor choice of words on my part. Do you recommend any books i should start reading to help me get by? i work in a book store and get ridiculous discounts so price is'nt an option. anything on science, math or even basics of drugs affecting the body and in depth studies on how it affects them.

college GPA doesnt scare me as much as my high school one. how important is that when it comes to it?

For calc i have schaums beginning calculus right now. i was looking for a little more challenging and interesting reads as opposed to study guides. but i might as well check out the one you listed while on break tomorrow! One i found so far that looked pretty cool is that there's a book in august coming out about the pharmacology of LSD. Do think that would be a little much to read?

yea, it would prepare you for great discussions during your pharmacy school interviews.

Pharmacology of LSD would be way out of the scope of interview??? At my interview we didn't even get anywhere near actual topics like that... But hey if you're interested in it, go for it, OP.

...yea....i was definitely being sarcastic.

the female brain is a good book, it describes how the female brain reacts during certain stages of a womans life and the chemicals involved in it.
