How Do med schools look at A minuses

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know if med schools view A minuses as A's since not all universities use the +/- system?

The AMCAS GPA system is standardized. An A- is an A-. Which universities don't use a +/- system?

AMCAS regard A- as A-, 3.7. An A or A+ is 4.0. This was quite helpful to me as I believe more Candaian Universities give A+'s than US ones. It brought my average up a little. For Ontario, Canada, where I'm from. AN A- is 3.7, A is 3.9 and A+ is 4.0.😉

But on AMCAS the A+ would come out the same as an A, I believe.

my bad.. at my school professors are allowed to decide if they want to use the +/- system.. I'm not sure how it works at other schools.

I've been to one university which used only +s so a B+ was a 3.5 etc. and another university which had no +s or -s. There are many different grading scales out there that different universities use. However, amcas just converts the grade to their own grading scale and it doesn't matter what the original scale was. I think that in the admissions process, however, the adcoms are more interested in how well a student does on average, not if there is an A- here or there. I doubt they really give much thought to the fact that there are schools out there without + and - systems.

It's better than an B+ but not as good as an A.

When I went to Drexel University as an undergrad they didn't use +/- 's...just ABCDF.

It worked out great because every term I got 90% across the board and got A's for them.

My school (Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi) doesn't use the +/- system either.

Neither does mine, Mississippi State

Nor does my school. And they don't post the number grade you got in the class, either, so I'm not sure how AMCAS would know how to convert my grades to the +/- system.

When I read the title of this thread I was gonna go berserk, but upon further analysis realized OP meant something different.

Sadly, I too thought this a troll post. Things have just been too quiet without BeatrixKiddo to bash...where have the days gone?

Itd be nice if Premed machine was around, those were fun times

you also know that you visit this site too often. or are old if you said "those were fun times", or if you reminisce about the past SDN days lol

No, I don't feel old, more (since you've pointed it out) like a tool.

They don't convert it to a +/- on AMCAS. If your transcript says "A" you get an "A" on AMCAS even if your numeric grade in the class was an 89.9%.

you joined on April 2006? the OP joined on September 2006
so that means you joined 6 months before him?

that and 1000+ posts make you old and experienced?

nah, just that I visit this site too often. I said "old" as another tenet to which the abovesaid phrase may apply. I've also lurked around here for about a year before signing up as well.
